Rand Paul bails on "Meet the Press"

U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul has had enough of your stupid policy-based questions about his beliefs concerning the proper role of government, liberal media losers. That's why he's backing out of a scheduled "Meet the Press" interview at the last minute.

Betsy Fischer Tweeted, and Dave Weigel confirmed, that the simple country doctor from Kentucky will not ride his blimp to the "Meet the Press" studios this Sunday, because every time he goes on national TV, he says something incredibly stupid.

So he's running from the chance to defend his beliefs. Which is sad, because I was really looking forward to moving on from the questions of whether black people should be allowed to eat at lunch counters and whether people in wheelchairs should be provided with elevators to his thoughts on the forthcoming NAFTA Superhighway and possibly the microchipping of militia members.

The most embarrassing thing about Rand Paul is that he's unwilling or able to explain or defend his deeply-held principles the second he's challenged on them. His decision to release a statement affirming his unwillingness to repeal the Civil Rights Act the day after he said he didn't support it is basically announcing that he wouldn't fight for what he believes in, should you elect him. On "Good Morning America" today he also declined to say he'd repeal the Fair Housing Act, and when asked if he thinks the government has a right to set a minimum wage (he doesn't) he dodged the question.

According to Fischer, the only other two people ever to have canceled "Meet the Press" appearances with such late notice were Louis Farrakhan and Prince Bandar.

What he said about the civil rights act is that it is flawed. He supports the part of the act that gives everyone equal rights when it comes to government or government supported entities.
What he opposed was forcing the mom and pop stores and restaurants to serve everyone. He thought a private business should be allowed to serve only those they wanted to.
He explained refusing service to someone because of their skin color was a very bad business decision but, he thought small privatly owned business' should be able to decide for themselves.
It was a question of property rights over civil rights.

"Which is sad, because I was really looking forward to moving on from the questions of whether black people should be allowed to eat at lunch counters"

That's most likely all they were planning on talking about with him and that's most likely why he's not going. Good move. It's a fucking retarded conversation to have at this point since the mainstream media seems incapable of having a real philosophical discussion about anything.

"His decision to release a statement affirming his unwillingness to repeal the Civil Rights Act the day after he said he didn't support it"

Here we go again. He did not say he did not support the civil rights act, fucktard. He said that the one tenth of it that deals with private businesses should have been discussed more in the light of the private property rights.

"The most embarrassing thing about Rand Paul is that he's unwilling or able to explain or defend his deeply-held principles the second he's challenged on them"

The fuck are you talking about? That's all he's been doing day in and day out for months.

CR - he may have just gotten confused over the number of stories in the building or whatever. Who the fuck really cares? The point he was trying to make was just as valid no matter the amount of floors in the building.

That entire portion of the article you provided was pretty lame. Just look at it - Paul gives a hypothetical example to make a point...and then the article says that nothing like that has ever happened. Instead of focusing on the philosophical issue he is attempting to discuss, they focus on the hypothetical situation he was using and sling shit at him because said hypothetical was a few floors short of what the law actually requires.

Like I said bro, it's clear as day - the media, Washington, and most Americans, simply don't know how to deal with libertarians because it is a political philosophy rather than a cut&dry political party line. They cannot distinguish between honest philosophical pondering and platform, because all they know is the later.

How many miles of government-run trails in public US parks exist? Probably hundreds of thousands. Now how many of those are handicap accesible? A small fraction.

Now if private businesses that provide a service should all be handicap accessible, shouldn't there be 700 miles of paved, handicapped accesible hiking trails in Glacier National Park as well?

Riiiiight. Because if you believe in accommodating those with disabilities, then all hiking trails must be made handicap accessible.

Do you believe in equality? How come you didn't give away 50% of all your earning? Do you believe in environmentalism? Then how come you are using power? Are you against animal cruelty? Then how come you eat meat?

"Do you believe in equality?"

- On particular issues, yes.

"How come you didn't give away 50% of all your earning?"

- I would if I got 50% of yours.

"Do you believe in environmentalism?"

- No.

"Then how come you are using power?"

- Because it's awesome?

"Are you against animal cruelty?"

- Define cruelty? I hunt and fish, but always attempt to limit the suffering of my prey.

"Then how come you eat meat?"

- Uhh...because it's awesome?

What does any of this have to do with the fact that Aeros thinks all private businesses that provide a service must be handicap accesible and me pointing out that there are plenty of public 'businesses' that provide services that are not accessible by the handicapped?

Well, Rand is in good hands now.

"Paul, who canceled a planned appearance Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press" after a week of tough coverage, seems to have switched to a more disciplined approach: get off national TV, focus on Kentucky and stay on message.

That's in part because senior Republicans have told him to do so.

Karl Rove, the former top adviser to George W Bush, called Paul's campaign manager this week and said the candidate was hurting himself with all the exposure, according to a source familiar with the conversation (In an email, Rove only said "no comment" when asked about the matter)
