I thought this was mostly garbage by a pseudo-intellectual at first, but towards the end there were a couple good points:
"Posting this linguistic analysis on the Blizzard statement due to several requests"
http://imgur.com/gallery/xd7yQOr

Bad points were that the Chinese specifically use topic sentences.. more like, that's just intro-academic and corporate writing. It's also not weird that Blizzard would indent sections — it's probably not copy and pasted, it's more like they were trying to be clear and corporate-y. It's also not unusual for corporate writing to use multiple voices and manufacture questions based on their perception of FAQs. That's just because they go through so many approvals before public release (author, co-author, public relations, legal department, editor, etc.) that there's very little left of a singular voice. That's why corporate speech is so empty: it's the platitudes of a multitude.

But, the Twitter person starts sounding legit with the grammar points:
• "using "When we think about..." instead of the present participle ("thinking", or something else...)" and
•""in CN there are no plurals ... see: "there is a consequence" (instead of the native EN phrasing "there are consequences")"

"There is a consequence" *does* sound a bit odd... And given that they didn't really reverse their decision — only minimized it slightly and did not touch on the Hong Kong protests at all — it could easily be seen as China-compliant language reviewed and/or penned by a Chinese employee. It makes for a fun conspiracy theory, anyways ;)

As the top comment points out, Blizzard standardizes their press releases to GMT, so when they released the CEO comment (at about 7pm CST, October 11th), the time stamp reported the GMT of after midnight, October 12th.

Someone in the comment chain pointed out that you can see a construction worker on the yellow portion, moving left in frame, when that whole section falls apart... D:

..
In the Imgur comments for this video from 2015, some genius said, "the guy in the pickup is a dumb fuck but the guy in camaro is slightly dumber", which is funny because the Camaro-driver was drunk, had an open alcoholic beverage (so police suspect he was actively drinking at the time), driving without a license, attempted an illegal lane change, and attempted to pass in a gravel/grass shoulder; while all the pickup driver did was box in the Camaro-driver after the initial provocation...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pA7BASFqXIw
Anyways, I think the pickup driver made a good move by holding his lane at the beginning (he had right-of-way and maintained it somewhat safely), but after that he should have completed the pass of the 18-wheeler instead of boxing in the Camaro. The Camaro is totes at fault, it's only that road rage duels aren't a good idea ;D

This may just be a prank (either by the person who claims to have found this blood or by someone who was just messing around with blood packets at night), but I'm choosing to believe that someone was attacked by a psycho, they tried to escape into a parked car, but the psycho grabbed them and pulled them into another car and drove away ;)

[Onion: News in Brief]
http://www...k-down-on-cocky-lit-1839028936
"WASHINGTON—Vowing to take a stand against the smarmy fucks who must think they’re some kind of hot shit, the U.S. Department of Education announced Monday that it would crack down on cocky little assholes who hand in their test early. “The American public school system will no longer tolerate any student who dares to saunter up to the front of the classroom, slam their assignment on their teacher’s desk, and flash a shit-eating grin while saying ‘Wow, that was so easy,’” said deputy secretary to the Department of Education Mick Zais, adding that those who hum to themselves, yawn, or loudly open personal reading materials after turning in their tests with 20 minutes left on the clock will receive an automatic failing grade. “From today onward, any student who smugly asks the teacher for extra work or whines that they already checked their answers three times will be swiftly punished. Also, if a teacher catches some arrogant little turd high-fiving another high-achieving student in their classroom, they have the power to suspend them. Indefinitely.” At press time, Zais announced the Department of Education would also be cracking down on students who earned perfect scores on tests by punishing them with immediate expulsion."

Lol@Purge morning show. Nice touch when the host, Rachel, laughed at Chad’s impending death. And I wonder how many co-hosts she’s killed to this point ;D

Interesting that they’re saying that purging is time zone specific. People could conceivably get 3 hours more or less purging if they did an Autobahn across the States. Seems like it would be easier to have a country-wide start time (Zone-adjusted) to avoid state border issues. Issues like, if a person is in CST during Purge hours and kills someone standing in EST whose Purge hours have concluded, can CST-person be charged with murder? The Purge universe is pro-body count, so maybe that’s legal, but it would be a bummer to think that the annual Purge is over and then get hit by a sniper from across state lines ;)

MILLCREEK, Utah — A man was arrested Sunday night after police say he punched a child, fired gunshots at the child’s father and barricaded himself inside of his home in Millcreek.

On Monday morning, Unified Police identified the suspect as 61-year-old Richard Lindem.

According to Unified Police Department, the suspect was upset that two kids were riding a dirt bike in his neighborhood near 300 East and 4300 South (on Doreen Street). The suspect then allegedly confronted a 6-year-old boy and punched him multiple times in the head.

Officers on scene said the boy’s father confronted the suspect, who then drew a firearm and fired gunshots at the father. The father was not injured. The suspect then returned to his house and barricaded himself inside shortly after 3 p.m.

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) - The caretaker of a Pakistani house of worship unleashed his pet lion on an electrician who was trying to collect late payment, local police say.

Police said the electrician visited the house of worship multiple times because his wages were overdue, and eventually got into a heated debate with the caretaker -- who then used his pet lion to attack the man.

Authorities said the victim did not initially file a police report because the caretaker promised to get him treatment and pay him compensation. A month passed and the electrician received neither, so he decided to file a police report.

Nick Lestina made a frightening discovery at his Bagley home earlier this month.

Five inches of animal blood, fat and tissue from a neighboring meat locker had seeped into the basement through a floor drain, creating a scene worthy of a Halloween movie.

"Some things you just think you'll never see," Lestina said.

Lestina, a father of five, has lived next door to Dahl's Custom Meat Locker for 10 years. He said there was never a problem until Oct. 3, when he stopped home to pick up a power drill and noticed his sump pump spewing red liquid.

Two weeks later, the blood is still seeping into the basement and the Iowa Department of Public Health told the family it's not safe to live in the home.

I could try to give the Extinction Rebellion peeps the benefit of the doubt by saying that obstructing traffic flow (a sacred cow in many places) is a good way to disrupt common folks' lives and thereby force people to think of the direct impact that their commutes have on the environment... but at the same time, in the U.S., that particular sacred cow invites violence, so they should definitely expect this sort of thing more often.

Yeah! That action/reaction must be pretty cool once you get used to it. Looking into it, the controllers have a vibrate feature, so maybe when you make contact with something it crash-vibrates for feedback. I really need to learn more about VR stuff...

I just (finally) finished Alien:Isolation, and it turns out that it's VR-supported now.. which would be extra terrifying D:

"Steam automatically made a VR group in my game list & is auto adding games that support it i guess (like Subnautica) so that's handy"

Oh neat. I just looked for that in mine, but it only lists "Steam 360 Video Player" and "SteamVR"... I wonder if games that make the list have been given *specific* VR attention — like integrating with a particular headset's features — but that games outside of the list will still work for basic look-around functions. I mean, it seems like any VR headset should allow you to look around a room while keeping the cursor position in the "center" (monitor direction if seated at a computer). This is probably basic stuff, but I'm having trouble getting clear info.

I did go on an hours long search for top-of-the-line VR equipment so I would know where the market is heading. I spent most of the time looking at the "Varjo VR-2 Pro", which, first of all, only sells for business-use (not for private individuals / consumers; it even demands a business tax ID before purchase), and which costs about $6000 plus a mandatory software license of about $1000 ( http://store.varjo.com/varjo-vr-2-pro ). With tax, that gets it around $9000. Price aside, it's super cool. Their whole thing is super-clarity — an end to VR's issue with the "screen door effect". The VR-2 Pro is their latest release, and it includes SteamVR support, which brings it back to the question: could it be used for regular Steam games such as Alien:Isolation? ;p

to be clear, i'm referring to the 'View Game Library' section, left panel... Steam originally just had a "Games" folder on the left where it dumps them all when you first buy

but at some point they added a "Favorites" group at the top (for your convenience i guess), and a "VR" group at the bottom (but perhaps only shows up if you have at least 1 item auto-added)

but yeah, games probably somehow have to designate they fit for Steam to notice or something

"to be clear, i'm referring to the 'View Game Library' section, left panel... Steam originally just had a "Games" folder on the left where it dumps them all when you first buy"

Oh, I see. A left bar with everything seems to be all I have — just one big list with favorites at the top. I see there's a way to manually add and label categories, and in Googling it looks like, yeah, Steam automatically adds a VR group to the leftbar when you have a VR game ("[If] you buy game with VR support ... steam automatically creates new category in your library you cannot remove" http://ste...s/forum/10/135512305400938464/ ). So that just means that I don't have any (officially) VR-supported games :'(

Alien:Isolation is only VR-supported with a developer mod called "MotherVR". It looks like it does like one would expect: lets you peak around but still control everything the same way. It's a mod, so aim is always where you look, unlike [Some? Most?] newer VR-supported games that let you look around while keeping a weapon pointed in the same direction. That must be because the original game developers didn't render a visible body in the 1st person view.. Anyways, BestBuy sometimes has a demo VR setup, so I think I'll be taking a serious look at this today :D

Technology is changing all the time! RaccoonVR is probably on the horizon! ;D

"VR will probably just be something i want to get & never do... like a raccoon... :/ "

Could be the same for me. This may just be another case of me looking into the tech without purchasing. I went to my nearest BestBuy, but they didn't have VR demos. I spoke to someone who recommended going to the mall for that sort of thing.. which makes sense :D .. I'll see if that pans out tomorrow, but the Oculus website only lists a different BestBuy as a demo location, and for some reason that BestBuy won't offer demos until next weekend.

My biggest concern at this point is how noticeable that "screen door" is... the tech reviews make it sound like you don't see it unless you look for it, but that seems subjective. A screenshot at the top of this Valve Index review was helpful: http://www...review_my_new_king_of_virtual/ . Sounds like the Valve Index is leading popularity right now, but Pimax' 8K X releases in a couple of days (though the Pimax website makes it super obvious that it's a Chinese company with no English-speaking editors, and YouTube comments have pointed out that Pimax has been abusing its Kickstarter promises to siphon funds). Pimax looks like it has the best image quality and field of view (as per the reddit review and also this insanely long YouTube review which shows Alien:Isolation gameplay at 2:20:57 and Subnautica at 2:22:04 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcZ0CXP0qgU . This second video reviewer apparently now works for Pimax (not at the time of this video, though), so he's been accused of being a shill...).

TLDR: From what I gather after tonight's research, while the Pimax 5K XR is the best combination of image quality (low screen door effect), field of view, and system requirements. The 8K sounds better, but in practice it requires really high end PC power... and Pimax may just be a Chinese rip-off anyways. That leads back to the Valve Index.. and while Gabe hurts us every day with no HalfLife3, we can probably trust his VR ;p

One more update :p
Looks like StarVR is the latest benchmark for VR:
http://www.starvr.com/products/#0
It nearly covers the total field of view (210° horizontal 130° vertical), and a reviewer said that you actually have to *concentrate* to see pixelation. They're using custom AMOLED screens and custom lenses to remove distortion. Unfortunately, they're only sending units to developers at the moment :'(
This makes 2020 look really good for VR :p

I thought it was an error by the news peeps to say that 4 children were hit, but apparently there were two people standing behind the person in the white sweater. You can sort of see at least one person behind white sweater.. All were sisters, as per this:

SUMMERTOWN, Tenn. (AP) — A haunted house that promises an extreme experience that can last up to 10 hours requires participants be medically cleared by a doctor and sign a 40-page waiver.

The McKamey Manor experiences in Summertown, Tennessee, and Huntsville, Alabama, also require visitors be at least 18, insured, and pass a background check and drug test.

WFLA-TV reports that owner Russ McKamey offers thousands of dollars to anyone who completes the tour, but says no one ever has. He records each tour on video — for his own protection he says — and then posts them online, showing them quitting in humiliation.

It’s costs nearly nothing to enter: Just a bag of dog food. The website warns of physically demanding environments, but McKamey says the manor is a mental game.

"seems to be some twisted freak using BDSM/torture/burying alive tactics to humiliate people"

Yeah. Sounds about right. Looks like he missed his calling as a government-sponsored torturer ;) .. Also looks a little like the "Stanford Prison Experiment", where a major design flaw is that when people say that they want to quit, the person in charge of allowing them to quit is part of the game and can say, "No" (at about 31:50, someone is asking to quit and gets denied for a minute). Looks like a rule is that in order to quit you have to say that whole long "stole my milk money" line, which isn't reasonable for people under duress.

..
"her strategy failed but points for originality"

Another nice description there: "The power of taser compels her to have a lie down." :)

At first glance, this guy may seem like a dick/asshole (maybe he still is?), but this happened in Bogota, and an etiquette rule for these turnstiles is to queue mainly on the right and let people leave on the left. You can see the large woman charging ahead to try to beat the person exiting so that she can get past the line.

Hmm.. Diablo IV was announced at BlizzCon. There's a cinematic trailer with Jerome Flynn (Bronn from GoT) and also this gameplay trailer:
"Diablo 4 - Barbarian, Sorcerer & Druid Official Gameplay Trailer | Blizzcon 2019"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae42e8Flb5o
Looks cool at least — more like Diablo 2 dark colors than Diablo 3 cartoon colors — but it has some behind-the-scenes issues:
• Only online play (no offline single player?)
• Activision is (potentially?) monetizing via micro-transactions (another pay-to-win model)
• It's an open world explore game instead of semi-scripted levels

Might be too early to care.
People keep bringing up the Hong Kong issue, but while China is China (messed up to the bitter end), *if* Blizzard releases a good game, then it should be weighed on its own merits. It's the same thing for me with actors like Tom Cruise; I don't care if he's a Scientologist if he makes good movies. That being said.. who knows if this'll be a good game.

D3 has turned into a good game. Just from what we know already, they appear to have learned from some of their mistakes with D3, so I'd say there is reason to be optimistic.

That's good to hear. D3 turned me off from its beginning, so I didn't really check up on it past the two or three months that it was talked about in UGT. The D3 wizard first-release looked like a cheesy anime character, whereas D4 is making the sorceress look cool (Western-style animation with dark, gritty texture), albeit with some unnecessary Shakira hip movement. It's making me want to get D1 to work again or just run through D2..

The art page looks reminiscent of D2, for sure:

Grim Dawn gameplay seems nice. Kind of reminds me of Revenant (1999) but with better graphics. Cool that it incorporates decision-based story developments.. not sure I've ever actually tried a game like that. It's full price on Steam at the moment ($25), but it's in my wish list for the inevitable discount :D

This was interesting..
From September 2018, this Police officer tells a man that he can slap him (i.e., slap the officer) and that he will not be arrested for it. The man does a slo-mo test slap (maybe doesn't even make contact), then the officer full slaps him and arrests him:
http://imgur.com/gallery/TxJAFSa
Article in the comments says that late last month the officer was charged with misdemeanor assault and could face more punishment (hopefully including a firing).
