The Onion provides a step-by-step breakdown of how one of these movies becomes a flop: STEP 1: Warner Bros. executive catches old rerun of The Rifleman and thinks, “I could make that cost a quarter of a billion dollars” STEP 2: Screenwriter commissioned to develop a story that’s splashy, family-friendly, and has a hard July 24, 2017 release date STEP 3: Meryl Streep declines to participate STEP 4: Repeated production delays caused by prima donna CGI animator refusing to come out of his trailer STEP 5: Classically trained Shakespearean actor privately wonders why his character wants to blow up planet Earth STEP 6: Studio hands off total creative control to illustrious, visionary test audience STEP 7: Top minds at Burger King tapped for limited-edition cup collaboration STEP 8: Year-long marketing rollout to get the public intrigued, then excited, then cautiously optimistic, then annoyed, then intolerant of upcoming film STEP 9: Critics sent advance screeners and encouraged to keep reviews to one or two words, tops STEP 10: Home video and overseas markets swoop in to make everything all right STEP 11: Paramount executive catches old rerun of Dynasty and thinks, “I could make that cost a quarter of a billion dollars”" |

"i don't know much about the alt-right people other than if they say 'cuckservative' they are probably one of them :p" That's basically the Onion's summary on it :D "What Is The Alt-Right?" [Onion Infographic; August 29, 2016] http://www.theonion.com/infographic/what-alt-right-53747 "A recent speech by Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton criticizing the “alt-right” movement and its support of Republican nominee Donald Trump has shone the national spotlight on the ideologically conservative group. Here’s what you need to know about the alt-right: • Beliefs Why ruin your day by getting into this? • Precursors Long lineage of conservative philosophers including Hans-Hermann Hoppe, Julius Evola, and “U Mad Bro” 4chan meme • Membership Over 40,000 individuals currently appealing ban on Wikipedia editor account • Origin Although generally considered an online movement, the alt-right actually has its roots in the evolution of adrenal glands in vertebrates 525 million years ago • Against Political correctness, immigration, feminism • For Being against political correctness, immigration, feminism • Notable Achievements Finally convincing Twitter to take online harassment seriously • History Movement began in earnest after Ronald Reagan aired his famous “It’s Morning In Cuckmerica” campaign ad in 1984 • How It Differs From Traditional Conservatism Even less diverse • Chief Opponents Social media sites’ conduct policies • Goals Members hope to preserve European culture, promote nativism, feel less sad and angry about everything all the time, and oppose political correctness • How Long Will The Movement Last? As long as there are libtards that need uncucking" My thoughts: ...looking past the Onion's satire, it is pretty problematic that certain terms (memes, Wiki bans, Twitter harassment, anti-feminism, etc.) get assigned to the "alt-right" rather than to character types or online strategies. It would be an error of metalepsis/"chronological reversal"/(false causality) to say that a troll must be "alt-right" instead of saying that an alt-right person might be employing troll tactics. By reversing that causality the anti-"alt-right" pop culture trend can basically make enemies out of Trump supporters by equating them with online trolls in general, which politically becomes a way to justify hate for one group (GOP/Trump) by pretending that it is symptomatic of another (trolls). That is: most people hate trolls and have personal experiences with them, so if trolls can be equated exclusively with the "alt-right", then peoples' pre-existing troll-hate can now be displaced into Trump hate. It's a weird, simplistic, and dishonest strategy given how many other reasons there exist to hate Trump... it also gives a pass to left-leaning trolls, which makes it more slave morality protection (create a group that can do no wrong (non-right trolls) because all of the ills of society have been placed on that group's opposite (right trolls)). TLDR: Pretty sinister stuff! Impressive misinformation in the mainstream. |

I have 250 students in three classes this term, so it’s going to be a bit of a challenge recalling what I can’t say around each of you.” Pollard added that he also had office hours for any student who would like to individually threaten him with calls for administrative disciplinary action should he happen to discuss a topic that caused them personal distress." |

The Westerly Sun reports that Jeffrey Osella was arrested Tuesday night. Police say he answered his door shirtless and had corn kernels stuck to his chest. Police say Osella used a potato gun to shoot corncobs at his neighbor's house, which is up for sale. The gun is made of PVC pipe and uses a light accelerant such as hair spray that can be ignited. Police say Osella and his neighbor have long-running disputes. |

"The decision to put yet another man in a dress to portray a transgender woman touches a nerve for transgender people, and rightfully so," Adams wrote. Member | Sun Sep 04 04:54:59 lol! .. so much fire :D .. [tw]: "is it wrong to cast a man to play a transgender woman? ... seems kinda appropriate to me" Yeah this seems like the opposite of a problem; I completely disagree with this Nick Adams person. It used to be that producers had to cast *women* to play transgender women (see for example S4-E21 of Law&Order:SVU from 2003) because it was *easier* for audiences to sympathize with a man transitioning to a woman if the character did in fact look like a woman. This could be considered an unfortunate casting choice because it means that audiences would not be able to sympathize with a male pretending to be a female — an indicator that culture just hasn't/hadn't gotten to acceptance yet (a theme of that episode). By that premise it would actually be a step forward to cast a man as a trans-woman because it means that even if a person still looks male but identifies as female (which tends to be the more realistic outcome), people can still learn to be understanding/accepting of that appearance and identity. And SVU made that point when they did their "Transgender Bridge" episode (S17-E3; 2015), which featured a trans-woman played by a male actor. The whole point was that in real scenarios a trans-woman can/will still be perceived by others as physically/formerly male but that simply being *seen* as trans does not mean that other persons cannot learn to accept that trans identity ("Dallas Buyers Club" did the same by cultivating audience love for Jared Leto's character, showing that regardless of appearance the underlying identity can still be appreciated). Nick Adams seems to be suggesting that people be the sexual version of "colorblind" ("Oh, you're black? I didn't even notice because I'm so 'with it'!") which would be ridiculous. In real life people can spot those physical markers, and in real life trans people often do not look exactly like their destination sex. Having a trans-woman played by a woman would only make the goal of transitioning seem more idyllic (and therefore unrealistic and in my opinion the real "Toxic and Dangerous" outcome if done recklessly) because people who want to transition may have some magazine-induced idea that no one will be able to tell, which will very likely *not* be the case unless the trans-person had super-bourgeois parents who caught the gender dysphoria early and started hormone therapy before puberty could irreversibly add those physical markers. So at *best*, to save Adams' idiocy, trans-women should be played by actual trans-women rather than strictly male or female actors, but even that would get screwed up quickly if you asked "pre-op or post-op?".. Some actual trans-women would be pre-op, which physically would be no different from the male actor, and yes, the psychology can be feigned.. http://media.giphy.com/media/sAfok9VTPY3bq/giphy.gif TLDR: Seems that Adams prefers to be unrealistic. Worthless outrage. .. "a possible awkward conversation for Luke if he's Rey's father" lol!! :D .. good writing! That seems way too accurate too.. like Disney probably will have to take their notes directly from that or else make Rey a Kenobi if she wasn't already :p Lena would prob be fun to follow, yeah. She's like a rich person's autistic kid who has gotten famous accidentally. And we get to hear how absurd her inner monologue has become because she posts her thoughts so readily! :D .. like she probably doesn't know that she'd be good to ignore for more than just frumpiness, a tuxedo, and a bowtie :) |
tumbleweed
the wanderer | Sun Sep 04 11:27:55 yeah, perhaps he was saying it should be a trans-actor, not necessarily a woman... i wonder if his view is as passionate on Peter Pan :p the trans community seems overly sensitive about recognizing a trans woman is physically a man, there's no way around it... the wanderer | Sun Sep 04 11:32:37 so, more Lena :p she started out defensive with these tweets which don't really make any sense... clearly she attributed feelings to him " My story about him was clearly (to me) about my own insecurities as an average-bodied woman at a table of supermodels & athletes. It's not an assumption about who he is or an expectation of sexual attention. It's my sense of humor, which has kept me alive for 30 years. " but after a day she has apologized... although she still seems kinda annoying about it :p " I owe Odell Beckham Jr an apology. Despite my moments of bravado, I struggle at industry events (and in life) with the sense that I don't rep a certain standard of beauty and so when I show up to the Met Ball surrounded by models and swan-like actresses it's hard not to feel like a sack of flaming garbage. This felt especially intense with a handsome athlete as my dinner companion and a bunch of women I was sure he'd rather be seated with. But I went ahead and projected these insecurities and made totally narcissistic assumptions about what he was thinking, then presented those assumptions as facts. I feel terrible about it. Because after listening to lots of valid criticism, I see how unfair it is to ascribe misogynistic thoughts to someone I don't know AT ALL. Like, we have never met, I have no idea the kind of day he's having or what his truth is. But most importantly, I would never intentionally contribute to a long and often violent history of the over-sexualization of black male bodies- as well as false accusations by white women towards black men. I'm so sorry, particularly to OBJ, who has every right to be on his cell phone. The fact is I don't know about his state of mind (I don't know a lot of things) and I shouldn't have acted like I did. Much love and thanks, Lena " |

the wanderer | Mon Sep 12 11:01:38 i wonder how bull guy practices that --- A Florida man was shot and killed on Saturday night in an ill-fated attempt to test his supposedly bulletproof vest, police said. Joaquin Mendez, 23, donned the vest and “wondered aloud whether it still worked,” according to a police report cited by WESH, the NBC station in Orlando. “Let’s see,” replied his cousin, 24-year-old Alexandro Garibaldi, who then allegedly fired the fatal shot. |

the wanderer | Mon Sep 12 17:44:21 seems so & perhaps he saved a life by determining the vest was not trustworthy ----- A heart, believed to be that of a human, was recently found outside a northern Ohio shopping mall, and now authorities are trying to determine where it came from. Paramedics in Norwalk, 60 miles southwest of Cleveland, stepped away from their parked ambulance for roughly an hour and returned to find the bagged organ in the grass near their vehicle, police told the Norwalk Reflector. “It was fresh; it wasn’t decomposed,” Norwalk Police Chief Dave Light told the paper of the Aug. 25 discovery. “They’re 95 percent sure it was human,” Light told the Reflector, “but they want to make 100 percent sure.” |

the wanderer | Thu Sep 15 10:11:19 maybe Cena is Lowell's son ==== An Indiana man who police say mailed dead skunks and a raccoon to a man chosen over him as school basketball coach has been arrested on stalking, animal cruelty and other charges, police said on Wednesday. Travis Tarrants, 40, was also accused of spray painting the victim’s car with such messages as “you will die” in a bid to get him to resign as coach and fourth grade teacher at the school in French Lick, Indiana, which happens to be the hometown of 1980s National Basketball Association star Larry Bird. Tarrants is also accused of calling the county department of child protective services to falsely accuse his rival of having sex with a 15-year-old boy. |
