jergul rank	Sat Oct 10 22:55:52 Something is truly wrong with the narrative. Russia enacted an export ban to secure diesel for its domestic market. No other reason. It was happily exporting diesel and making money before Ukraine hit its refining capacity. So now there is a deal for Russia to do what it was doing before. How is this helping Russia? It could have lifted the export ban any time it liked. This is Russia doing Trump a solid in exchange for US pressure on Ukraine. It may actually hurt Russia some if the result is diesel shortages in Russia.

jergul rank	Sun Oct 11 00:14:47 Seb Nothing new about sanction regime waivers. There have been numerous sanction waivers for Russian oil. This is a nothing burger. Diesel is a global commodity. Russia never needed sanction waivers from the 40 odd countries sanctioning it. There are other customers. All it means is that Russia has committed to selling diesel internationally (the diesel is not actually committed to the US market) that it might actually need domestically. And well, countries that have already transitioned to using domestic currencies in trade could use the US dollar too I suppose. Not that Russia wants USD. There are 7.5 barrels to a ton for diesel in case anyone was wondering how much the firm commitment of 800k tons of diesel is. A high single digit number of large tankers full.
