Utopia Talk / Politics / Texas Senate primaries

rank | Wed Mar 04 02:43:43 On the GOP side, incumbent Senator Cornyn is trailing the hardline MAGA blowhard corrupt piece of shit Ken Paxton. Because of course. On the Democratic side, the insane lefty nutbag and pure demagogue Jasmine Crockett is leading the slightly saner (but still loony) James Talarico. If Cornyn wins his primary, Texas likely stays red. If Paxton and Crockett win, Texas likely stays red. If Paxton and Talarico win, it gets interesting. Trump, being the charlatan he is, hasnt endorsed anyone yet because he only does that when a candidate has a 100% chance of winning, thereby guaranteeing that he gets to brag afterwards that "he" was responsible for the victory. |

rank | Wed Mar 04 02:59:36 I think Beto O'Rourke losing to Ted Cruz by 2.56% in 2018 is the closest any Democrat has come to winning a statewide race in the past 30 years. Texas will stay red no matter who wins tonight. - |

rank | Wed Mar 04 04:16:00 Open primaries are the way to go. Top two finishers regardless of party meet in the general election. Fewer complete morons that way. - |

Like in California, where that system resulted in...Senator Adam Schiff? lol no. It sounds like a good idea in theory but recent results suggest otherwise. |

rank | Wed Mar 04 05:48:11 "If Paxton and Talarico win, it gets interesting" agreed, many R's know Paxton is a criminal (& are the ones who tried to have him removed from office) whereas Talarico is very church-y (while not being a dick about it), so probably can appeal to any non-cultist or criminal supporter |
