LONDON, June 2 (Reuters) - Tesla's (TSLA.O), opens new tab car sales fell sharply in several European markets including Sweden and Portugal in May, a fifth consecutive monthly decline that has been blamed on CEO Elon Musk's political activities and an outdated model lineup.

In Sweden, Tesla's new car sales plunged 53.7% in May from a year earlier, while in Portugal they were down 68%. Overall electric vehicle sales in both markets rose by almost a quarter in May.
Tesla's sales were also down 30.5% in Denmark, 36% in the Netherlands and 19% in Spain, while data from PFA in France released on Sunday showed a 67% fall.

In Sweden, for example, sales of Volkswagen's electric ID.7 were almost twice those of the Model Y. Tesla's mass-market Model 3 was also outsold in Sweden by electric models including Porsche's Macan, BYD's Seal and the G6 from Chinese EV maker Xpeng

Tesla sales in Germany dropped in May for the fifth month in a row, as demand for the electric vehicle maker continued to slide across much of Europe, despite Elon Musk’s efforts to turn his focus away from his U.S. government activities and back to his companies.

Registrations of new Tesla cars in Germany, Europe’s largest car market, dropped more than a third from the same month last year, data released by the country’s Federal Motor Transport Authority, K.B.A., showed on Wednesday.

Tesla sales in other European countries have also remained depressed, falling more than 67 percent in France and 29 percent in Spain in May.

Mr. Musk has tried to downplay the extent of Tesla’s losses in Europe, telling Bloomberg News in an interview at the Qatar Economic Forum that although it was the region where the brand faces its greatest challenges, “the European car market is quite weak.”

But data from European markets does not support that claim. In Germany, sales of battery-powered cars grew nearly 45 percent in May, compared with a year earlier. In Spain, overall sales of electric cars grew 72 percent, while Tesla sales slid 19 percent.

In Germany, demand for BYD, Tesla’s main E.V. rival, rose ninefold, the strongest showing of an electric vehicle producer from China.

"Similar trends were seen in the UK and Italy. In the UK, Tesla sales decreased by 45 percent, even as overall EV sales increased by 28 percent. In Italy, EV sales increased by almost 41 percent, but Tesla's deliveries dropped by 20 percent."

The level of anti-Americanism in Europe is quickly reaching the level of anti-semitism. The USA should block the sales of important American parts and components that European manufacturers are using to build their cars if the Europeans don’t start to buy more American cars. Europe also needs to condemn Hamas.

Teslas stock continues to remain shitty this time, highlighting the fact that the only reason this speculative stock maintains high prices in complete contrast to the disastrous product sales its supposed to mirror according to capitalistic rules of the game, is that its propped up by people with massive wealth. As soon as they say they dont like this Taylor Swift of the finance world, it loses all value

once again murdering the laughable theory that the capitalist market reflects a product's actual quality

It has always been a complete pretence, of course, that chaotic unplanned national economy is more efficient than planned economy. As with exactly every other aspect of life, such as the army, centrally planned society is always more efficient than hundreds of thousands of chaotic, independent competitors. Hundreds of thousands of competitors is more in line with freedom, certainly, but efficiency? Lol. The only time planned economy is less efficient is when its ruled by drunken tyrants such as Breschnev et al.

Everyone knows that war is the ultimate expression of ”the shit hitting the fan.” Everyone knows that the way to win a war is not to allow for hundreds of regiments to act independently without knowledge of each others plans as free competitors against each other without a centralized plan. This sounds like lunacy in a real wartime shit-hits-the-fan scenario. China is currently showing that a planned economy is a perfectly efficient tool, and that the capitalism that capitalists have demanded be a part of our school curriculum for a century is filled with untrue myths.

"Everyone knows that the way to win a war is not to allow for hundreds of regiments to act independently"

No. The very purpose of a sub-unit such as a regiment, or any other, is that it is flexible and has the ability to act both independently or dependantly as the situation requires.

Its a pop trend stock, popular only as long as the celebrity company was getting invited to all the right parties

One's value is hype and bullshit, the other has throngs of very loyal paying customers.

Teslas decline is actually bigger than those numbers. They certainly would have had a large share of the 26% increase in EV sales if Musk hadnt made himself so hated

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association, sales of battery electric vehicles across the European Union (EU) increased by 26.4 percent in 2025 compared to 2024, year-to-date. Tesla registrations in the EU have declined by 46.1 percent through April 2025, with a 52.6 percent year-over-year decrease in April alone.

We need to get used to how silent EVs are though. I almost walked out in front of an electric bus in Cannes yesterday because I didnt hear it.

All EVs travelling at less than 20mph should be required to play creeping death by metallica.
