Norway homeowner wakes up to find 440-foot ship ran aground on his doorstep

A man in Norway awoke early Thursday to discover a huge container ship had run aground a stone's throw from his fjord-side house — and he had slept through the commotion.

For an as-yet unknown reason, the 443-foot NCL Salten sailed up onto shore just meters from Johan Helberg's house in a fjord near Trondheim in central Norway.

Helberg only discovered the unexpected visitor when a panicked neighbor who had repeatedly rung his doorbell to no avail gave up and called him on the phone.

"The doorbell rang at a time of day when I don't like to open," Helberg told television channel TV2.

His neighbor, Jostein Jorgensen, said he was roused at around 5 a.m. local time by the sound of a ship heading at full speed toward land and immediately ran to Helberg's house.

"I was sure that he was already outside, but no, there was no sign of life. I rang the doorbell many times and nothing ... And it was only when I called him on the phone that I managed to contact him," Jorgensen told TV2.

Several hours later, the massive red and green container ship was still stuck near the wooden house, waiting to be refloated.

"It's a very bulky new neighbor but it will soon go away," Helberg said.

The ship reportedly caused damage to a heating pipe in Helberg's cabin, TV2 reported, but the homeowner told the station it could have been much worse.

"If the ship had hit the rocky cliff right next to it, it would have lifted up and hit the house hard," he told TV2. "It wasn't many meters off."

None of the 16 crew members were injured in the incident, the cause of which is being investigated by Norwegian police.

Bente Hetland, the CEO of the shipping company that owns the NCL Salten, told TV2 that the same ship ran aground twice before — once in 2023 in Hadsel and once in 2024, in Ålesund.

Sadly, the ship has not been abandoned. Otherwise, finders-keepers might apply. Maritime law has a lot of wierd and archaic things.

Was Putin behind it?

Swedish news reported yesterday that a Russian ship "made a manoeuvre" near a cable recently.

They're trying to trivialize it. This is a lot closer than "a stone's throw". Maybe if the stone was thrown by a 3 year old or by a girl, then we can talk about "a stone's throw".

Imagine looking out the window and seeing that thing coming right at you.

How much of a commotion can a massive ship running aground 15 ft from your house possibly make?

Murder
Surprisingly little. At least on the ship itself. I have been grounded twice for the exact same reason. Exhausted navigator falls asleep and misses a turn. Should not happen, but does because navigator does not want to bother exhausted crew to have an additional lookout on bridge. Unloading a reloading ship is incredibly intensive. At least on trawlers. Not fun for anyone.

Turns out it was an Ukrainian who crashed the ship.

And in Britain, 3 Ukrainians have been arrested for arson attacks on Kier Starmer.

Remember a year ago or so, Zelensky threatened Europe with ”angry Ukrainians” if Europe failed to deliver a victory for Ukraine, saying ”there are a lot of Ukrainians living throughout Europe and if Ukraine loses they are going to get angry”.

Could we be seeing their anger now?

And a Zelensky critic got murdered in Spain the other day as he was dropping off his children to kindergarden.

Who wanna murder a Zelensky critic? Zelensky? The Brits, the French? NATO?

Notice also how silent the British are about this murder. When some guy died in Britain a couple of years ago, they immediately claimed it was Putin and placed sanctions on Russia. I guess it is okay to murder people as long as the murder victim is someone you don’t like.
