Ukrainian sea drone downs $50M Russian Su-30 in Black Sea

In an unprecedented naval operation in the Black Sea near the Russian port of Novorossiysk, a Ukrainian Magura V5 sea drone, operated by the special forces unit Group 13 of Ukraine’s military intelligence, fired an R-73 air-to-air missile and shot down a Russian Su-30 fighter jet valued at approximately $50 million.

It already claimed that back in late 2024. In addition it has claimed shooting down a helicopter that way too. I am pretty sure the cost-benefit analysis for naval drones is mediocre. A whole cottage industry feeds attempts to sink naval ships, blow up the kerch bridge and shoot down air craft. But certainly better for the people involved than serving at the front. Russia hardened their glide bombs against jamming, so the short hiatus is over and they are back with a vengance (current rates are pushing 200 a day).

I frankly am not sure what the Russian perspective is yet. Certainly not accentuating Ukraine making odd personnel dispositions as the frontline erodes due to lack of manpower. Never interrupt an enemy making a mistake. But there is an aviation group that is quite outspoken. We will hear what it has to say.

Incidentally, why start a thread on combat in Ukraine? Surely you know that will not end in your favour simply because nothing is going in Ukraines favour?

As I have written a thousand times on this forum, it doesn't matter how many of our soldiers are killed or equipment destroyed by the Ukro-Nazis, because we have more to spend!

And as soon as the DPRK joined our cause and sent its heroic soldiers into battle, the West should have started waving the white flag.

Just think: the Western internet is full of jokes and memes about Kim Jong Un and his habits. But he is still beating the crap out of your Ukrainian mercenaries. You always underestimated him. Now you have to face reality, and it's going to be ugly for you!

Its just that you don't get it, so you focus on trivia. The big picture? Ukraine is investing huge amounts of resources in stupid shit instead of like, having boots on the front line. I suspect corruption is more a driver than stupidity. Better to contribute to the war effort waaaaay far away from the frontlines. If you know the people you need to know or can afford to buy a slot.

So yah, Russia lost a plane. Says Ukraine. Running a billion dollar project to have unmanned jet skis in the black sea. Meanwhile, Ukraine is losing the war.
