I enjoyed the game, and played about 200 hours of it. But that was ~4-5 years ago. It got repetitive after a while.

New updates keep it fresh. I like it, but have not played for close to a year. I will probably get the new downloads and give it a spin in a bit.

After HOIIV of course. Trains have arrived! Or will in two days.

CK-III is also very funny. To cover some of Paradox games I like.

Not for a while - I didn't finish my last game which probably won't work due to updates.

Nhill - they added a ton of new mechanics that radically changed it - archeology, space nomads now form a clan, mid-game crises, diplomacy, espionage, megastructures etc.

Might have to get sucked back into this one.

I've only played it for a couple of hours back when it was still pretty new. I quite liked it even, but just didn't have the time to get sucked up into that sort of game then.

Maybe I should give it another go when I have some time to waste.

It is a time sponge - one feature I would really like though is something a little like what dwarf fortress does in descriptions of relics and artefacts that dynamically reference events that occurred in-game: such that your works and planets from one play through can then become events, relics, precursors civs or fallen empires in future play throughs giving the feeling of an unfolding galactic deep history.

You can shuffle the star-lanes and have systems come and go on the basis that this is driven by the passage of time as the galaxy rotates - to mix it up a bit.

The last time I fired it up to use one of the expansion sets I got half way through my first game and then never got around to picking it up again - I'm pretty sure the save file won't work because of the features they have added, I'll need to figure out what version to roll back to.

it was just after they added archeology - I had dug up the titan ship with a jump drive, and I used that to win a war I was totally going to get creamed in by doing hit and runs - I think I'd just got megastructures and was building my first star gate - but hadn't got into the L-space cluster yet.

I finally got over my Eu4 addiction, so I'm going to avoid this thread like the plague.

I stopped around 100h I think. Had a lot of fun while collectivism and slavery were broken

Stellaris? That's for psoriasis, right?

Glad I am in good company. :)

@seb - I would really enjoy it if events on one play through carried over like that.

One thing I would like, and I know it's heresy, is a faster timeline. There are certain things I want to try, like say being a zombie empire, but I don't want to dump 40 hours into it.

An option to have an accelerated start might be nice.

Just play tall, not wide.

Jergul:

To be honest I've never figured out how to play tall.

I average about 1 game per major release up until the archeology patch (the last few years have been very very busy what with brexit and vaccines) and I want to discover all the things - which drives playing wide.

Spaaace FOMO.

Has anyone done a good The Culture race and name list yet?

I keep meaning to scrape Culture Ship Name Twitter feed into a big text file.

I can't find time to play it on my own cadence. 0 chance to do multiplayer.

What I am open to is either axis and allies on triple A or diplomacy, one turn a week cadence.

Been a decade since I've messed with A&A but sure. One turn a week sounds doable.

Really excellent game to pick up and play through once or twice a year. Love it.

I have a miserable time dominating any play style other than basically space Nazi empire.

My best games are the ones where I conquer/subjugate/exterminate until I grow bored at like half to 3/4 of the galaxy taken and no real opposition left.

I generally do space America. Limited democracy at home, imperialism abroad.
