First of all I'll believe it when I see it. If we do get these checks I'll be pleasantly surprised and immediately try to cash it before it bounces.

That aside. I will have to give credit to Trump or Congress for this stimulus to the economy.

I bet that within 1 week 99% of that money will be in circulation. Spent on bills and food or clothing.

What on earth makes you think you deserve a cent from the government? You're retired; you dont need to make up any lost earnings.

In fact, old fucks like you should be cutting the rest of us a fat check. You know, us, the working-age people who are losing out on vital earnings every single day this goes on. Not because the Chinese virus poses any serious threat to ourselves, mind you - it's be barely an inconvenience for us if we contracted it - but because WE'RE willing to sacrifice our financial health and stay at home so YOU dont potentially die from the disease.

WE are all making hard decisions for YOUR benefit...and your response is to have the chutzpah to ask for free money. Fuck off.

You greedy elderly assholes are already plundering Social Security by taking out far more than you put in and leaving us younger folks with Jack shit when we retire. You dont need another unearned $1,000 on top of everything else.

Hospitalization rate is ~17% for 20-44 and ~25% for 45-54. Even if they aren't dying, hospitalization isn't "barely inconvenienced." It's still serious, just not lethal. Very likely still worth a medium-high level of caution.

Habebe

Hood, I should have worded that to who have qualifying taxable income.

Gist is this

100k or more gets nothing.

75k/yr gets 1200/PP, but $5 less for every extra $100 in income.

Less than 2500 in qualifying yearly taxable income get nothing.

More than 2500 get somewhere between 600-1200. Im not sure on how exactly that is determined but it seems to be a % ofhow much you make.

Also im umsute how this figures into next year's taxes.

The centerpiece of the Senate Republican proposal — crafted with support from the White House — is a direct payment to qualified Americans of up to $1,200. Married couples could get $2,400. Taxpayers who earn more than $75,000 annually will begin to see that payment reduced by $5 for every $100 they earn over the $75,000 threshold, with those who make more than $99,000 getting nothing. Families with children would get $500 per child.

I had go read the proposal to verify the cut off was double for couples.

So I can get $4400, but I have to
A) verify I'll actually pay that much tax
B) try to keep income under 150k

Since the gross will be well above I need to find out if 401k contributions can lower it, if I need to, and how much.

nah THe Children there is a difference in a one time or two time payment to stimulate the economy during a downfall and a permanent payment for ever and ever until the country finally goes broke. Another difference, Yang's plan would have replaced many of the social programs if fully put in place.

Yeah I know how Yang said he would pay for his plan. I also know how government works. No way the cuts in entitlements Yang proposed would ever happen.
And we all know the price would go up once the people most effected realized they give up a lot more than they get and stand no chance of making ends meet.

Self interest is normal and an important virtue, but...,

the me, me, me attitude is exactly why the world is a nasty place. Most of those boomers are in the same situation as you and did nothing different or less worthy. Nothing personal, just the reality with no pleasure in saying. You worked hard your entire life and couldn't get over the hump while slaving to keep the supply chain of this Country moving. Every service cog deserves better. No one chooses to be born.

"What makes a war baby any more important than a post war baby?"

The US and other countries pushed child bearing as a national, patriotic duty during the war years.

Anyone born then is the result of doing what society wanted. There is some inferred added value there.

No one choses to be born indeed. But for that particular period in time, being born was highly encouraged.

TJ I was just slapping back at this whole generational divide thing. All I know is that the boomer generation started shortly after WWII, hell I don't know or really care when it transitioned into whichever of the labels is next.

I do find it amusing and sometimes annoying, all this petty bickering over shit not one of us has any control over.

It's almost like, now that people are becoming a little more tolerant of peoples differences, race, religion, etc., they have to find something else to bicker over. As if we don't have enough.

Jergul, in actuality, there really weren't that many that lived a long time on SS. Most of those that were near my fathers age were dead before they turned 70. Dad was a pretty active agitator so he kept himself busy or his mind busy. Loved to stir shit and get young guys all worked up over the silliest things. He had fun till the last 3 or 4 years. He was 86 when he passed.

"TJ I was just slapping back at this whole generational divide thing."

There is an answer for everything. United we stand divided we fall is a team sport. Slapping adds to the divide.

I know it was in jest, but if it spends no one is going to wipe their ass with currency no matter what it looks like unless they have more than they know what to do with and then they most assuredly won't.

I've said it before in this niche. FDR is raising his dead head. There seems to be a lot of historical ignorance.

However, you are still eligible for a check if you have no income or if you rely solely on non-taxable government benefit programs like Supplemental Security Income benefits, or SSI, from Social Security.

You also must have a valid Social Security number in order to receive the funds.

"However, you are still eligible for a check if you have no income" SS is considered income.

If your combined income was more than $34,000, you will pay taxes on up to 85% of your Social Security benefits. For married couples filing jointly, you will pay taxes on up to 50% of your Social Security income if you have a combined income of $32,000 to $44,000.
