The 5.7-magnitude earthquake that shook Utah Wednesday morning also dislodged a symbolic part of Salt Lake City's iconic Mormon temple: the trumpet of an angel statue atop its highest spire.
The temple is the spiritual focal point for the 16 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"The trumpet on the Angel Moroni statue fell off, and there is minor displacement of some of the temple's smaller spire stones," said Daniel Woodruff, a spokesman for the church.

It is March 15, 2020, and the novel coronavirus that causes the pandemic disease known as COVID-19 is galloping across the world, being transmitted at an exponential rate. When this is all said and done, virtually every human on the planet will have been impacted by this amazing, microscopic work of God in one way or another.

There are 2 types of people on this earth – the children of the devil (also known as the wicked, workers of iniquity, children of disobedience, the reprobate) and the children of God (also known as the righteous, the just, the sheep of God, the elect of God). And the Lord deals with these two groups of people in very different ways:
“The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but He blesseth the habitation of the just.” (Proverbs 3:33).
To the children of the devil, which group consists of most of mankind (including most people claiming to be Christians), we are currently displaying a sign at Westboro Baptist Church that says: “Coronavirus = wrath of God upon the disobedient! Repent? Ephesians 5:6”.
“Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things [i.e., fornication, uncleanness, covetousness, idolatry, and other proud sins] cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.” (Ephesians 5:6)
Our message to you is that this is the wrath of a sovereign God being poured out upon you for your proud rebellion against God. God promised this to you in Deuteronomy 28:
“If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD; Then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, [even] great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance. Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. Also every sickness, and every plague, which [is] not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.” (Deuteronomy 28:58-61)
Even if God has mercy on you and gives you a temporal blessing by allowing you to come out on the other end of this pandemic unscathed, He will turn that very blessing into a curse. As Malachi said to the false religious leaders of his day:
“If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay [it] to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay [it] to heart.” (Malachi 2:2).
Your refusal to give the glory to God in this matter will be exhibit A against you on the Day of Judgment.
You have put your trust in transitory, uncertain things - the economy, the government, the medical system, etc. – and you are watching them fail. You are witnessing how easy it is for God to completely undo you, and you realize how swiftly and easily the events recorded in the Revelation will come to pass.
As today has been declared by President Trump to be a National Day of Prayer, saying, “We are a Country that, throughout our history, has looked to God for protection and strength in times like these,” we tell you that God will not hear your prayers while you continue to proudly sin and rebel against Him.
“But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.”
(Isaiah 59:2-3).
This is not a nation that looks to God for protection and strength – this is a nation that has forgotten God, that kills babies by the millions, that allows men to marry men and women to marry women, that is awash in fornication and adultery (including divorce and remarriage, from the highest office in the land and on down), that trusts in vanities, that despises the Word of God. A nation of stiff-necked people, who refuse to repent.
Our message to you is that you must repent, and believe on the Lord Jesus, as that is the only way to take care of the lethal problem of your sin. You have spent inordinate time worrying about and dealing with the threat of the coronavirus - if only you spent a fraction of that time addressing the far larger problem of your rebellion against God.
To that other group of people on this earth, the children of God, our message is this:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28).
You have put your trust in the unchanging God. You can say “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer” (2 Samuel 22:2), and God will bless your habitation in whatever way He sees fit.

I live in the Salt Lake valley. It was quite the tremor. Enough to jiggle shit off of any counter ledge and out of cabinets if not level. Lots and lots of smaller aftershocks.

Power never went out. Mormons are low key freaking out about the end of the world, acting calm and modern, but buying out stores of food.

Mormonism itself has mostly evolved away from being a real religious/cult movement over the last 50 years and into a corporate giant pretending to be a religion for tax purposes. This has left it a mostly cold/efficient religious experience that lacks sincere love or service for fellow man. It still has some of the old 1800s cult in it with the temple ceremonies that were stolen from 1800s Freemasonry.

As far as those 16 million members half of them are completely non-participating and another large portion are just partial "my family will freak out if I bail" participating - the real number of "go to church every Sunday I believe it" Mormons is closer to 4-5 million.

So I'm not entirely sure the God of the universe would really use this particular faction of zealots for sending signs to the all humanity.
