Yeah, some people has too much moneys. Buying a banana for 150k while many people can barely afford to buy a piece of bread. And look at all the people who are standing there and filming it with their iphones as he eats it, eager to upload the video to their twitter or instagram feed to get some likes. There is something wrong the society today. How did it became like this?

Yeah, the real gallery is the gallery of a dozen+ cell phones trained on you as you eat a banana.

As for the $150k asking price... just because that's the price, doesn't mean anyone will actually pay it. Part of readymade art is inducing a demand with a placard and ludicrous asking price that forces people to ponder art's worth asymmetrically; it used to be that a painter would work on something for months, and it would be pondered for only a moment, but a banana taped to a wall takes all of 5 minutes to create but may be pondered (or outraged over) for longer.. if given things like gallery space and a price tag. Then the lazy artist can inspire art critics to overvalue the work and make judgments on your behalf, like the temporary nature of all art, the decay of art, the marketing of art, etc... and at the end of it, it's a banana. And here's a guy eating a banana. Bamboozled! ;)

I was reading about the banana a couple of days ago. One article said the artist actually sold three duct taped bananas and told the buyers when the banana rots just replace it.

The $120,000 banana — a real, rather ripe and edible one — is the work of Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and titled “Comedian.”

The work comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, and owners are told that they can replace the banana, as needed.

While the banana was indeed consumed, apparently that doesn’t diminish the integrity of the six-figure art work, said Lucien Terras, director of museum relations for Galerie Perrotin.

“He did not destroy the art work. The banana is the idea,” Terras said.

Confused?

We were, too, but that’s where the Certificate of Authenticity comes in. Collectors are buying the certificate. The banana is not made to last.

it says "owners" & "collectors" plural so i guess they are selling as many $120,000 pieces of paper declaring you have a banana as they can

Imagine having so much money that you're willing to give $120,000 to a hack troll artist to brag to your friends ;)

Their link that says someone actually bought it only leads to a page saying that the gallery owner was "in serious discussion with a very important collector to buy it." It also mentions that they printed 2 certificates and have 3 bananas. lulz

..
Also looks like today (Sunday, December 8, 2019) someone wrote, "Epstein didn't kill himself," on the white wall where the banana was:

Wikipedia is currently featuring Thomas Cole's "The Course of Empire" on its front page. They have extremely high-resolution versions of that work that allow you to savor every last detail portrayed.

I came from that to see this story about a banana duct-taped to the wall. Which is apparently what passes for high art these days.

Western Civilization has truly been in decadent decline ever since the birth of modernism.
