”Let’s change da name. That will fix the problem with our airplane.” – Boeing

Boeing Says It’s Open to Changing the Name of Grounded 737 Max Jet

(Bloomberg) -- Boeing Co. is open to dropping the “Max” branding for its latest 737 jetliner, based on a global study it is conducting of consumer and airline responses to an aircraft name that’s been tarnished by two fatal crashes and a three-month grounding.

“I’d say we’re being open-minded to all the input we get,” Chief Financial Officer Greg Smith said Monday in an interview on the sidelines of the Paris Air Show. “We’re committed to doing what we need to do to restore it. If that means changing the brand to restore it, then we’ll address that. If it doesn’t, we’ll address whatever is a high priority.”

It is true Paramount. Due to constant bombardment with information, the sense of novelty in this incident will wear off quickly. And poof in 6 months noone will report or care about 2 air crashes that happened waaaay back there.
Im better then you

Ya if your the general public. These planes cost $135 mill a piece, people are gonna do research before buying one and if they are gonna buy a dozen expecting them to last decades then yes they will look at these FAA reports.

What do I know about branding, maybe nothing (but I did become President!), but if I were Boeing, I would FIX the Boeing 737 MAX, add some additional great features, & REBRAND the plane with a new name.
No product has suffered like this one. But again, what the hell do I know?

Rebranding isn't about airlines buying it, but customers of the airlines remembering

"Ya if your the general public."

Those are the people whose opinion matters.

"people are gonna do research"

I am pretty sure there is nothing in the airplane design nor any of the systems, that are outside the competency of Boing to fix. So the airline purchasers will worry more about reputation and acceptance. The psychological effects on the public will wear off and the renaming will facilitate that.

Those who remember will remember. But to change the name may help to make it more difficult for a new generation to make a connection with that airplane model and those crashes.

But its not only that the airplane was faulty, Boeing itself cheated and lied about it.

I don’t know if cutting off an arm will help when it is the brain that is bad. I think they need to start anew from the beginning and make it right.

Paramount,
Yes but you are the one getting fooled. An airplane model crashed a couple of times because of an error. The error will be fixed and quite possibly the airplane will go to have a long history of safe use. But for some reason you want the world to freeze to the state of 2019 when it comes to the airplane.

The same goes for Boeing as a company. Things change, stop living in the past :)

Yeah but it should have already been fixed before it was allowed to fly. They cheated because they were greedy.

Maybe they will do something similar again. If they did it once, they can do it twice. When it comes to greed, things never change.

Indeed, if they did it once, they can do it twice. Can't argue with that :)
