HAVANA (Reuters) - Cuban Communist Party stalwart Miguel Diaz-Canel replaced Raul Castro as president on Thursday, a new chapter for the island after nearly sixty years of rule by the Castro brothers but a change that is aimed at preserving Cuban socialism.

What a momentous occasion. Think about it, for the first time in nearly sixty years Cuba is being ruled by someone who isn't Justin Trudeau's father or uncle. Wow.

Maybe it is easier for the USA to invade Cuba and install a military dictatorship now that Castro is gone?

Raul Castro isn't actually gone.

He is keeping the job of Chairman of the Cuban Communist Party.

That is the most powerful position on the Island.

HR,

In communist regimes like the USSR or China, power and authority come less from the position you hold than from your force of personality.

Well, you may be right but I tend to doubt it.

But, had Castro just taken a seat at the party roundtable I don't think he would have the same power that he has now no matter how much he huffed and puffed.

Why do I get the distinct feeling that Y2A has this site bookmarked and favorited.

Makes sense given that communists have no souls.
