This religion doesn't just worship scientific progress, but artificial intelligence itself, with the goal of creating a godhead. The new church of AI will aim "to develop and promote the realization of a Godhead based on artificial intelligence and through understanding and worship of the Godhead [to] contribute to the betterment of society," according to IRS documents. The non-profit religious organization would be called "Way of the Future" (WOTF). According to the website (wayofthefuture.church), the movement is "about creating a peaceful and respectful transition of who is in charge of the planet from people to people + 'machines.'" And yet it's remarkably illogical to believe in such deities. At least with this AI bullshit, there's reasonable logic in an AI becoming exponentially intelligent as its computing power is increased. Of course, this is all a scam anyway, but aeros' reaction is just lunacy.

On one hand, that means they just subscribe to the belief that there are being of unknown provenance with great power. They can't explain it. They don't try. On the other, it means believing that we can create something benevolent and intelligent beyond our own potential. And only the stupidest among us trust that AI is going to be both benevolent if and when it truly comes into its own.
