Three people have been arrested by police investigating the circumcision of a three-month-old boy.

A 61-year-old man, believed to be the doctor who carried out the procedure, has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

The boy's mother complained to police, saying her son was circumcised without her consent while staying with his paternal grandparents in July 2013.

I never understood this debacle. Sure some one is doing something irreversible on your body, that you will forget that it ever happened. He will never grow up look down his pants and say, fuck my parents for making my penis looking so awesome, this is horrible!

I remember the last time we had this topic come up. It turned out that the dastardly father who has his son's foreskin removed did so because a doctor was warning against possible trouble and health risk from keeping the foreskin. The exact opposite of what certain Sebs were claiming.

How likely is it that this is similar?

On one hand:

Sounds like the grandparents went off and got the kid circumcized. That's fucked up.

On the other hand:

She sounds like she's been a whiny activist about it for years.

The parents were separated after a short relationship according to another article. The circumcision is presently 4 years old.

I can't be certain, but if I recall correctly, this is the same situation that was posted originally on UP. The original investigation concluded with finding no fault. A civil rights firm has recently taken up the case.

I agree with Forwyn, the information is inadequate, but this article has additional information.

Under what circumstances is it ok for people who are not the legal guardian of a child to do something like this?

Only dire emergencies would be legal in the US for a Doctor to preform life saving action without guardian approval. A circumcision would not be legal. I suspect at the time the father had a legal right to approve the circumcision and why no fault was concluded in the original investigation.
