Utopia Talk / Politics / Trump betrays Qatar

Un fucking believable. Qatar more then any other arab country has been at the forefront of trying to reform sunni islam. They have supported whole heartedly US interests in the middle east. And trump hands them on a silver platter to the wahabbists.

The ignorant, easily manipulated moron! He thinks he has trouble with the "deep state"? This will be a massive fiasco.

Qatar is facing some pretty hefty claims of terror support. All the other gulf states are lined up against them. Including uae, probably the most secular of them all, and bahrain, also a us client state.

We would be completely nuts to side with qatar on this.

Also they got completely goatfucked. Closed borders, airline shut down, all qataris kicked out. Qataris must be shitting themselves.

All the other gylf states are saudi puppets depending on their army to suppress shia minorities. Oman and Kuwait are not involved in this fiasco. This is not about terror. This is about the batlathists and the wahabists punishing qatar for its support of a more liberal interpretation of sunni islam and opposition to wahabism.

Qatar has been one of the few real arab allies America has. Not a lets pretend ally like saudi arabia and I will be fucking fucked if partisan fucking politics attempts to spin this in any way other then a gross betrayal of an ally to our enemies.

Aeros, Qatar is one of the major exporters of salafi Islam across the world through the financing of new Mosques. Of course it makes no sense that Saudi Arabia would "break" with Qatar, they are part of the same turd called Arabian peninsula.

"Of course it makes no sense that Saudi Arabia would "break" with Qatar"

Maybe it makes sense if Qatar has said that it is not wise to escalate the rhetoric against Iran. It angered Saudi Arabia.

Hacked emails belonging to Yousef al-Otaiba show close coordination with pro-Israel, anti-Iran think tank.

But so has bahrain and the uae is the most western economy. We are never going to side with qatar over the uae.

Qatar is almost certainly harboring a number of palestinian terrorists. Doubt the other arabs really care about terrorists who target jews, but they are using it as a pr point.

But really this is a pissing match between oil shieks and i doubt it ammounts to much. Qatar will back down soon and that will be that.

Might be. Saudi Arabia apparently sent demands to the Qatari's and the Emir told them to take their demands and go fuck goats with them. Turkey is fast tracking a deployment of 3,000 soldiers to Qatar, and they are expected to start shipping out tomorrow. If the Saudi's want to "do something" they have to do it soon, because Erdogan has been crystal clear where he stands on the issue, and if the Saudi's jump the shark with Turkish troops in the area this thing will explode 1914 style.

Aeros

Wed Jun 07 20:58:04
There is always the possibility of war in every situation. I merely point them out. As for specific scenario's I was correct about when you and others here said no way was the French interventions in Ivory Coast and Mali, the Kenyan invasion of Somalia, the US intervention in Libya and the descent of Syria into Civil War.

I also remember Rugians tears back when Bush sent the Marines into Liberia. Though that was such a minor incident I doubt even he remembers that one.

Wed Jun 07 21:03:08
In this case, there is a very real possibility of a major regional war erupting between Qatar, Iran and Turkey on one side, and Saudi Arabia, the U.A.E and Egypt on the other.

The reason for this is because Trump has abrogated the traditional US responsibility of making sure nobody gets to sabre rattle but us. We are seeing first hand the breakdown of the American Pax. His conflicting signals to the Saudi's may give them the confidence they need to think they can do to Qatar what they did to Bahrain a few years ago, and have failed miserably at doing in Yemen. Push back Iranian influence on their borders.

Only this time by going after a strategic ally of America, and one that is capable of active resistance and also just so happens to hold a security treaty with the Turkish republic. Something people tend to overlook since where the US stands on issues is seen as more important.

Doesn't the presence of ~10^3 American troops in Qatar already do that? When was the last time a country with a significant American military base was invaded?

Turkey and Iran wouldn't be on the same side. Iran would get sidelined for the most part.

"apparently Tillerson & Trump are playing good cop/bad cop on Qatar by offering opposing messages today"

Several people in the administration run around trying to put out fires that he starts. The problem is that he's President and they're not, and he doesn't want the fires put out.

" But trump is an idiot and seems to have given the saudis what they think is the green light."

That is what Iraq thought they had with Kuwait.

‘[W]e have no opinion on the Arab-Arab conflicts, like your border disagreement with Kuwait.’ The U.S. State Department had earlier told Saddam that Washington had ‘no special defense or security commitments to Kuwait.’ The United States may not have intended to give Iraq a green light, but that is effectively what it did."

Ankara further moved to send stockpiles of food and water supplies aboard cargo planes to the tiny Gulf country.

Qatari market chains announced on social media that daily food products from Turkey such as milk, yogurt, and chicken were now on the shelves with signs "from Turkey by air."

"Everything is going fine in Qatar," Suhail Awad, a Qatari shopper in Doha, told Anadolu Agency.

"We are now buying Turkish products," he said. "For the first time, my son will drink milk coming from Turkey."

Follow the money:

In 2015, Trump spoke about his admiration for the Saudis and attributed it to his business dealings with them:

"Saudi Arabia — and I get along great with all of them. They buy apartments from me. They spend $40 million, $50 million. Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much."

Therein lies the source of much consternation among Qataris. Several people interviewed for this piece expressed concern that Trump’s bias against their country might stem from a series of failed business overtures that he (along with his son-in-law Jared Kushner) made seven years ago, which are only now being reported. They did not go as swimmingly as the deals made with the Saudis and Emiratis.

That's nice and all, but you can't keep a nation stocked through cargo flights. They've got to send stuff by rail to Iran and then ship it from there.
