All three countries, The U.S., Canada, and Mexico have agreed to renegotiate NAFTA.

I thought Trump promised to leave Nafta. Looks like he failed with that too after being convinced to stay by Canada and Mexico.

It's not as if Mexico and Canada had any choice in the matter.

Trump is known to throw out wild extreme notions never intending to go through with them, it's in 'his' book even

i assume adult mature leaders see through his antics, or soon will

doubtful Trump knows what's in NAFTA or that he will learn what's in the renegotiated one, but one thing is certain: he will say he got a great deal

Yeah, Trump only campaigned on leaving nafta if Mexican and Canada weren't willing to renegotiate. It's not like Trump got exactly what he wanted this far.

claiming it will be renegotiated is hardly a miracle, lets see if he actually does it & improves it

he found out there was cheap lumber coming from Canada so put a tariff on that, he found out cheap aluminum coming in so wants to look into that... i wonder what happens when he finds out some dick is importing cheap ties from China

It's a victory and a step in the right direction on an issue everyone assumed he was crazy for bringing up. Similar to demanding NATO members actually pay for their own defense, except now that's an actual reality thanks to Trump.

what does 'free' trade mean anyhow?

Nothing is free, someones got to pay, and it aint gunna be me.

The idea is to have mutual trade for mutual benefit.

so then its 'mutual' trade, not free trade?

the 'North American Mutual Trade Alliance' has got a ring to it don't you agree?

True, but each country can join or not so it is free trade too.

Or communist trade. Another word for mutual.

The word may have some similarities, but not their reality.

Remember The Hungarian Revolution of 1956?

We're not that old, no.

Though as it happens I visited the hospital in the rock in Budapest last month, so I do know of it and its irrelevance to this thread.

Free trade is about not putting extra taxes on imports from another country (or applying other impediments), you insane person.

Nekran, jergul brought up the communists.

I'm not sure if they still do it or not, but do you know what the Japanese used to do when an imported car reached their docks? It was disassembled down to the last nut and bolt for inspection before it could enter their country.

But, of course, you are right.

However, Trump's definition includes no money manipulation or dumping or government reimbursing their exporters for their losses while they are destroying the particular industry in America.

His idea of free trade is mutual trade for mutual advantage. No tricks.

HR
Do you remember that Hungary was a Nazi German ally and that only 38 German officials were involved in the deportation of 500 0000 Hungarian Jews?

There was a general dockyard strike in Eastern Germany in 1949 that was even more stupid (you lost the war, stfu), but the 1956 uprising was stupid. You just lost a war you morons.

Perhaps that is why IKE did not intervene '56.
