All true ... except that 1st class is hardly luxurious. It just sucks less.

I don't know. It's possible since contracts go to the low bidder, China has experience with high speed rail, and I can't think of any serious security concern that would impede it.

The problem (as with every public construction project in the US) is that the project can be delayed by lobbying/protests/lawsuits by pretty much anyone ... for years.
