But "deletions" could be reversed by anyone else with the same power, so run of the mill poor judgment or hot headed decision wouldn't really be an issue. The real concern is people targeting individuals just to harass them.

Anything deleted can still be seen with "show deleted posts," and any of those deleted posts can be put back in place just as easily. The only point of it really is to clean up ugly formatting errors and spam, rarely is it good for anything else. But harassment against certain members is an issue. I would have hoped most of the forum members would have grown out of that. But if anyone starts trolling and abusing the delete button with annoying relentlessness, it's an easy matter of just taking the power away from that user. Modship is a horrible concept anyway and I've never liked it for Utopia. We don't need to be policed. We just need janitors to wipe up the spills. If everyone had the same forum abilities, then no one would have authority over another but trolls could be dealt with on the rare occasion that they need to be.
