If you post no proof, then we all know you're the coward who is simply using some unsupported belief to run and hide. So here's your chance. Let's see the proof." |

At least your cowardice and avoidance of backing up your claims is keeping their bday thread topped, Pedo Rod. |

You have the time to make bday threads but not to provide evidence to back up your own claims? |

While that's a nice quote, a coward and liar like you probably shouldn't be talking about Marines. Since you've failed produce any evidence whatsoever, and have continued to hide like a pussy, the only conclusion that can be drawn is that you're a liar and a coward. Noted. |

If the Marine Corps starts making ice cream that's even better than my current favorite (Talenti mint chip), then I'll share the sentiment ;p |

They are prohibited from applying that training once they hit the fleet, however. |
jergul
large member | Sat Nov 14 03:58:21 The USMC did make ice cream (though technically navy attached to it). A ship produced it by the metric ton off Iwo-J. |

Revved Up | Sat Nov 14 05:16:02 You and Lazy Communist are the only ones who care about them. I care about the 6821 Fine Marines that gave their lives to end the war that much quicker. And you are a fucking turd for not doing your job simply because you are biased, |
jergul
large member | Sat Nov 14 05:30:07 HR They mostly ended their lives to preserve the Manhattan project as a secret. The landing itself was pointless. |
jergul
large member | Sat Nov 14 05:36:28 Also, you are wrong that people don't care. While we all know that the Pacific was just a minor side show for the Japanese and Koreans (Korea was an integral part of Japan) who where focused mainly on mainland operations. Still, recent military assertiveness cannot but build its legacy on wwii heroics. |
Hot Rod
Revved Up | Sat Nov 14 06:16:23 jergul - The landing itself was pointless. "In all, 2,251 B-29 landings on Iwo Jima were recorded during the war.[49] Moskin records that 1,191 fighter escorts and 3,081 strike sorties were flown from Iwo Jima against Japan.[50]" Not to mention "Japanese fighter aircraft based on Iwo Jima sometimes attacked AAF planes, which were vulnerable on their way to Japan because they were heavily laden with bombs and fuel." Though their impact was marginal. Heck, one B-29, "Dinah Might of the USAAF 9th Bomb Group reported it was low on fuel near the island and requested an emergency landing. Despite enemy fire, the airplane landed on the Allied-controlled section of the island (South Field), without incident, and was serviced, refueled and departed." |
jergul
large member | Sat Nov 14 06:43:49 HR If you think saving one B-29 was worth 6821 Marines, then be my guest. |
jergul
large member | Sat Nov 14 06:44:53 "it was low on fuel near the island" Its loss would have been due to incompetence incidentally. |

jergul
large member | Sat Nov 14 08:45:46 HR Feel free to explain why you think the 6821 USMC deaths were needed in light of the pending use of nuclear weapons. Bomb crews had been doing atomic bomb drop training for months in modified aircraft when the first Marines were mowed down before hitting the water line at Iwo-J. Explain to me why that was not just a stupid, wasteful thing. |
Ork
Member | Sat Nov 14 09:42:14 Trinity (first a-bomb) was not tested until July of 1945. Okinawa happened several months before. Even if we were absolutely certain of the effectiveness of the weapon - which we were not - there is still no guarantee the Japs would of surrendered after we dropped our only two a-bombs. Hindsight is 20/20, quit trolling jergul. |
jergul
large member | Sat Nov 14 12:17:32 Ork 6821 died as part of a contingency plan on the off-chance nuclear weapons did not end the war is even worse than them dying to keep the weapon programme a secret. |
Hot Rod
Revved Up | Sat Nov 14 13:51:47 jergul - HR Feel free to explain why you think the 6821 USMC deaths were needed in light of the pending use of nuclear weapons. At that point in time they still did not have a working nuclear weapon and they still didn't know, 100%, that it would work. Plus not everyone in the military even knew about the A-Bomb. The only military man that might have known of the project was Adm. William D. Leahy, de facto Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff. And if he did know he probably would not have been allowed to tell FAdm. Ernest J. King. CNO, and/or Adm. Chester Nimitz, CNO, Pacific Both of whom would have been in charge of planning for Iwo. |
