In NO way was [my comment] intended as an insult to the Indian people or their culture." I'm a little curious as to why the Daily Mail felt a need to clarify that Kim has Armenian blood in her in a story about how she insulted Indian food... |

rank | Wed Jul 31 03:24:20 2013 I like curry, but their pickled vegetables are disgusting. |

rank | Wed Jul 31 05:28:51 2013 Curry is awesome. All other form of Indian food though, ugh. They absolutely destroy their meat. I can understand why you need to boil it within an inch of existence and blow up with enough spices to stun a rhino, but that is because in Indias tropical climate meat rotted and it was the only way to make it palatable, and safe to eat. Give it up India. Its time your dishes went the way of European pickled fish. Its terrible, and no longer necessary. |

rank | Wed Jul 31 05:33:47 2013 <3 Indian food can't speak for the meat dishes, but mmm, aloo palak |
Aeros
rank | Wed Jul 31 05:55:46 2013 The meat dishes are terrible. Their idea of roast beef is to boil it for 5 hours until it turns into this meaty goo, and then ladel it with so much chili spice that its the only thing you can taste. Then, you take the stuff that has the appearence of alien diarrhea and put it on bread. Don't even bother. Their veggie dishes are okay, but tbh, the Thai do vegetables far better when it comes to South Asian cuisine. Or if looking east is not your thing, go west and try Afghan, Persian and Arabic. Its fucking amazing. Indian? Hell no. For once I agree with Kim Kardashian. their national cuisine is terrible. |
McKobb
rank | Wed Jul 31 05:56:04 2013 I like Indian breads like parathas, poori, and naan. I love rava pakora :) I haven't tried aloo palak but it looks tasty. |
Aeros
rank | Wed Jul 31 06:00:48 2013 And I'll just go ahead and say it. Only two countries on earth make decent curry. Japan and the United Kingdom. Both their styles are awesome. India's, well, it sucks comparatively. |
Cherub Cow
rank | Wed Jul 31 06:05:02 2013 mmm.. garlic naan... this thread is making me houngry. Aloo palak *is* tasty :D the meat thing may be because Indian food is more vegetarian-centric? lol.. I've had this problem with some friends before; I'll take them to a restaurant I love but they'll get something with meat and say the restaurant is terrible ;D Thai curry is awesome though. I used to like pad thai a lot until I discovered yellow thai curry: http://fem...ess.com/2012/10/yellowthai.jpg |
Aeros
rank | Wed Jul 31 06:07:25 2013 Its not that Indian food is veggie centric. Its that they don't know how to cook meat. I suppose that could be the problem. I'm not a vegetarian. Protein is an important part of a meal, and if I am at a restaurant I expect it, and expect to be able to taste it too. |
Aeros
rank | Wed Jul 31 06:08:45 2013 And yes, Thai food is amazing. What's even more amazing is how a country on the same latitude and with a similar climate as India can have such amazing food compared to how much India's food sucks. |
Cherub Cow
rank | Wed Jul 31 06:09:01 2013 no tofu? :( |

rank | Wed Jul 31 06:19:34 2013 Indian food is pretty meh. Not great, not terrible. Not worth paying money to have someone cook it. |
McKobb
rank | Wed Jul 31 06:20:47 2013 I don't think I could eat tofu. It just sounds disgusting. For a big tip I need an Indian head bob! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRwzcnOdNFc |

rank | Wed Jul 31 06:23:38 2013 I ate tofu by mistake once at a buffet. Had the texture of a mushroom but without any taste at all. |
McKobb
rank | Wed Jul 31 06:33:14 2013 Don't get me wrong, I love some vegies. I grew up on a farm in the summers and we only had some meat for breakfast and wrung a chicken neck on Sundays but nothing but vegies the rest of the time picked from her garden (a little over two acres). |
Cherub Cow
rank | Wed Jul 31 06:33:20 2013 They must not have cooked it right :p Usually you compress it for an hour before cooking so it absorbs the tasties. If they don't and only sauté then it's no fun |
McKobb
rank | Wed Jul 31 06:42:27 2013 I tried a veggie burger at the Original Mel's in Berkeley. The 'patty' was made of mushrooms and rolled oats. It was edible but just had the wrong texture and just didn't have the savory taste that beef has. |
Cherub Cow
rank | Wed Jul 31 07:20:58 2013 It's sort of no-win to compare pseudo-meats to real meats.. :/ a lot of those "fake" items taste really good, but it's probably no contest if you eat a veggie burger for a simulated "real" taste. But if you go vegetarian (maybe just for a long enough time?) you still find ways to get that dopamine rush :D portobello mushroom burgers can be really good, btw! But if you cook on the same grill as real meat, it's cheating! ;D |
McKobb
rank | Wed Jul 31 07:31:15 2013 I don't get that, it's not like meat has cooties. I went to BBQ's where they had two different grill and I was like, Really? |
Cherub Cow
rank | Wed Jul 31 07:48:33 2013 Yeah .. I guess it depends on what kind of vegetarian you are (environmental vegetarians don't want to have anything to do with meat byproducts, nutrition vegetarians don't want the ingredients in their systems, etc.), but personally I just don't want to taste it. And it starts to invite grey areas.. like, how much animal oil can it make contact with? What if the restaurant offers this "super-tasty veggie-burger!" but their trick is that they intentionally soak it in burger grease? I once went to a Burger King with a friend and saw they had a veggie burger, so out of curiosity ordered.. took the bun off and there were bits of meat all over the bottom... yeeeeeah. Nice try BK ;D Pure avoidance seems easier, though I admit that it makes it difficult for social gatherings (I went to a friend's b-day at a Mongolian BBQ, that was fun! lol).. I usually just don't mention it and stick to the veggie trey, because even -I- don't like problem-customers or fussy eaters... |

rank | Wed Jul 31 08:00:51 2013 I had a friend that later turned macrobiotic. She took me to lunch at this nice Italian restaurant and ordered some pasta with veggie sauce. I ordered the ravioli. She started to get anxious and decided to inspect the kitchen, went off and did such, then sat down and said she decided she couldn't eat here. She was paying, as I was broke, so I suggested we go else where but left mourning my ravioli. I guess I just don't get it. It's food plain and simple, so what's the big deal? |
Cherub Cow
rank | Wed Jul 31 08:30:32 2013 *looks up macrobiotics* -- interesting.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macrobiotic_diet lol.. I'm not exactly inspecting kitchens.. so yeah.. some people go a little overboard :D Personally I try to be sensible about it.. like when travelling, not every city has those nice vegetarian-friendly restaurants where their whole sell is that you don't have to worry about cross-contamination (<3 Portland).. so.. don't travel? Noes! D: .. I just try to order stuff that is less likely to have been cooked with meats.. moar abstractly.. civilization is meant to make eating easy, and part of that is that being a vegetarian and still getting nutritional needs is made easy by civilization (we have that choice to be weird or selective), but certain levels of self-caused daily stress can go overboard.. I've done crazy things to avoid eating meat, but it -is- choice, and I don't think those abstractions should totally overrule the real side. If I'm stranded on a life raft I will be the first to suggest cannibalism :| ;D |

rank | Wed Jul 31 08:42:23 2013 How do you get your b12 or do you just deal with pernicious anaemia? |
Cherub Cow
rank | Wed Jul 31 08:59:46 2013 I do have anemia problems sometimes, yay \:D/ but that's what spinach is for ;) For B-12 it helps that I'm an ovo-lacto vegetarian, not a vegan (cheese and eggs okay). Ovo-lacto makes it a lot easier to travel.. veganism takes -a lot- of work.. |

rank | Wed Jul 31 10:08:08 2013 @first video Wow.. that was terrible.. she just kept talking for him. I'm glad Ramsey told her to "shut up for 2 minutes" because she seems to have worn him down and destroyed his self worth. She has basically destroyed their marriage and in a business relationship has given him no room to have his own ego. No -wonder- his work ethic is suffering. He has no space to think.. kind of want to see the whole episode now, but I guess that's the success of RealityTV; show you the disfunction of peoples' lives |

rank | Wed Jul 31 10:18:51 2013 that guy doesnt have a refrigerator lol. he puts his food on icecubes and back into the broken refrigerator. and he served his guests 4 years olf mayonaise that had been exposed on california sun and warmth. ____________ watchin gordon ramsays kitchen nightmares and ull never eat out ever again. sushi ko isnt even the exception. shits literally everywhere. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr3MGCmd03U - opened salad bag, flies come flyin out. - rats and rattraps everywhere - cochroach infested refrigetor - everythings putrid, molded and rotten - completely rotten peppa bells to the point where the green looks like someones stomache contents - putrid brown lookin chickenwings it just disgustin. and all that hidin behind the facade of the dinin area. coz that area looks very modern and nice. but the kitchen is fkin sewer. |

rank | Wed Jul 31 22:56:11 2013 aye, shit get pretty intense. looked it up online, looks like they closed after filming. ____________ " What happened next? The restaurant closed in August 2009. Owner Lisa believes that the relaunch was something they thought of a little too late and that the business had already failed. Sammy posted this on his blog, "After four years of being at The Lakes in Thousand Oaks Sushi Ko has shut its doors. We have all tried so hard from the beginning and put in so much effort but it just never worked out. It feels as if we have somewhat lost a part of ourselves, and it is a bitter/sweet ending. Only a few months after we filmed Kitchen Nightmares and all got rejuvenated and excited to be there again, we got the bad news. We all went from being on such a high and happy with the “new” restaurant and then shortly after got pushed to the bottom. Somehow business got worse after we filmed it and the center seemed more deserted then it ever has been. Partly the economy, and partly ________, it was just not looking good. I am glad I got to go into the kitchen and learn the new menu and how to cook tho, it has been a great experience and I did not want it to stop. We(family) all had to bite our lips and keep it in for a month before we decided what we were going to tell everyone and what we were going to do, and it was really hard emotionally for all of us to go in there day after day knowing it was all going to end. After we started telling people with a month to go we all felt a little better. We decided to close doors to the public on the 8th of August, almost exactly four years after we opened." After Sushi Ko had closed Nate 'n Al Delicatessen opened in it's space, this has since closed and reviews were bad. In it's place now is Unami Burger, a popular burger chain. Reviews are good." http://kit...son-3-episode-11-sushi-ko.html |

rank | Wed Jul 31 23:28:39 2013 Must be a "too-high rent" location. Those corporate locations have a lot of traffic, but they gouge businesses so that only "tried and true" businesses can survive. I bet there's a Target nearby... And it sounded like they already had too much debt anyways. Ramsey can't just roll in for one week, give them a bunch of equipment, and expect them to bounce back from all their bills. They needed long-term sponsorship.. |
