Utopia Talk / Politics / Illegal to stockpile food?

I've been trying to get to the bottom of this rumor. Lots of people claiming that there are either federal, state or local laws against stockpiling food (sometimes they use the word hoarding), but no one seems to profer up the actual codes, laws, rulings etc. I wouldn't be even MILDLY surprised to see such a law on the books somewhere, but I'm not going to just assume that there is such a law anywhere until someone can show it to me. Does anyone have any relevant info on this? And please do not clog up this thread with a bunch of bullshit personal opinions. I want only actual laws, ordinances, rulings, government legal action taken against people for storing food, etc.

(Airhole would be for this.... and then not want you to know about it so that the government could bust your ass.)

I love when people try to make up rumors and then be afraid of them.

You truly live in a delusional world Rob. There is no law against you buying as much food as you want for your personal consumption. If there are laws, they are obscure ones designed to prevent Monsanto and Arthur Daniels Midland from deciding that the price is not right for selling the crops this year. Thus, they sit on the food, causing a rapid price increase as supplies of essential staples run out and people begin to starve.

There's simply no way to make it illegal. What's the difference between a standard monthly shopping list and a year's or more supply?

At best, someone said you shouldn't let anyone know, or you'll end up having to feed them too, which cuts into your stockpile duration.

"There's simply no way to make it illegal. What's the difference between a standard monthly shopping list and a year's or more supply?"

I don't know. What's the difference between having some guns to hunt and protect your property with and stockpiling assault rifles and such? Or abusing your children versus disciplining them? Or statutory rape versus having sex with your 17-year-old girlfriend when you're 19? Or "tax evasion" when you don't understand the 30 million pages of self-referential, spaghetti tax code you're obliged to comply with? I guess there's no way to make laws about that shit. Oh wait.....

Maybe related to rationing in a crisis. But I doubt it.

Within the next year or two such a law will be passed and Airhole will defend it.

ROB
It could be illegal under certain emergency powers conditions.

My guess is you are looking for a presidential decree from world war 2.

But it'll happen again, you'll see!

The government will declare World War 3 so they can make stockpiling food illegal. Then when the aliens land and turn people into zombies, only the government will have food and everyone else will starve!

I'll never post again if I'm wrong!

This government has already declared that it has the right to assassinate an American citizen without due process, whenever and whereever it pleases. After that, any other claims of the federal government seizing unwarranted powers are entirely plausible.

If you leave the country to recruit for a country or organization we're at war with, I won't have any problem with a lack of due process. You'd be a war target.

Or should we start reading miranda rights to everyone the military shoots at?

The US didn't make any attempt to apprehend him whatsoever. I'd be one thing if US or Yemeni soldiers had attempted to arrest him, only to be fired on and forced to respond in kind. No, the US decided to simply bomb him on an open road with a Predator drone, and for good measure it did the same thing to his teenage son a few weeks later. That's a government committing murder.

At war with what according to whom? You have a war on crime and war on drugs with the exact same formal war status as your war on terror.

Maybe we should call a drone strike down on you the next time you go to Vancouver to buy some pot.

Jergul's best idea ever.
