The incident occurred at 5pm, when a mi-8 model helicopter crossed the Israeli-Egypt border near Eilat and continued to fly over the Negev. Four F-16 fighter jets were called up from Nevatim and Ovda airbases. The pilots attempted to contact the Egyptian pilot over the radio, but to no avail. Only after the IAF jets fired warning shots, the pilot retracted his steps and returned to Egypt. "The pilot was flying at a low speed, and didn’t respond over the radio," said an Air Force official, adding that the reasons behind his excursion were still unclear, but that all possibilities were being examined, including an intelligence gathering mission or an unintentional error. The official added that the Air Force views this incident with the fullest gravity, noting that they have never encountered a similar situation. Occasionally this reaches the media (like in this case) against the best wishes of the IDF. Why is the army hushing similar events? Simple - the IDF is being tested by the Egyptian force, which is a force to be reckoned with; the IDF can't engage these aircraft so not to create a dangerous situation with Egypt, and Egypt knows this, so they allow themselves to occasionally fly over Israeli airspace. I doubt they do it for intel as HR suggested; they do it to poke at Israel and test its patience. the IDF hushes its loss of its own sovereignty, simply because admitting it would make it look bad.

What are the conclusions that Egypt now knows it has anything up to 25 minutes before israeli air force starts mobilizing? Since they could easily mobilize within minutes, I'd say theyre very worried about facing off with Egypt, alternatively, something wrongly wired with israels relationship to USA, who they may believe wont do much to help if Israel shoots down an egyptian aircraft, possibly after stern US warnings to pipe down.
Asgard Member	Fri Nov 04 05:43:13 If 25 mins past, supposedly, and the IDF engages and shoots down an Egyptian jet, then there would be a diplomatic aggravation of large proportions, but most likely it would end in that after Egypt would demand an Israeli apology. If Israel would refuse an apology it would still likely to die out, unless the right wing foreign minister would in his turn demand an Egyptian apology, which the egyptian will refuse and take very serious offense to. But Egypt eventually wants peace, and so does Israel. No one has any interest to revoke the peace deal that was signed in the 70's, despite the new egyptian's regime declaration that it considers doing so, once it assumed power.
