The spammers ruined the other threads as I am quite sure they will ruin this one. That is the nature of those who do not believe in Free Speech.

~ On December 28, 1945, Congress made the Pledge of Allegiance the offical national pledge to the US flag. noted clergyman Henry Ward Beecher (1813-87) reminded us what our flag means:

If one asks the meaning of our flag, I say it means just what Concord and Lexington meant, what Bunker Hill meant. It means the whole glorious Revolutionary War. It means all that the Declaration of Independence meant. It means all that the Constitution of our people, organizing for justice, for liberty, and for happiness, meant.

Under this banner rode Washington and his armies....It waved on the highlands at West Point.....This banner streamed in light over the soldiers' heads at Valley Forge....It crossed the waters rolling with ice at Trenton....

Our flag carries American ideas, American history, and American feelings. Beginning with the colonies, and coming down to our time, in its scared heraldry, in it glorious insigna, it has gathered and stored chiefly this supreme idea: Divine right of liberty in man. Every color means liberty. Every thread means liberty. Every form of star and beam or stripe of light means liberty. Not lawlessness, not license, but organized, institutional liberty-liberty through law, and laws for liberty.

The American flag was the safeguard of liberty. Not an atom of crown was allowed to go into its insigna. Not a symbol of authority in the ruler was permitted to go into it. It was an ordiance of liberty by the people, for the people. That it meant, that it means, and, by blessing of God, that it shall mean to the end of time.

"It means all that the Constitution of our people, organizing for justice, for liberty, and for happiness, meant."

Which means the right not to recite the pledge, stand at attention with your hand over your heart and all that gay shit. But I'm sure hot rod probably thinks everyone should be forced at gun point to pledge allegiance to the flag since he has such a poor understanding of what freedom means.

The Pledge of Allegiance was created more than 100 years after the creation of America, as part of a marketing pitch to sell American flags to schools.

Not to mention the whole travesty of the "Under God" addition. I will never recite the Pledge again for the remainder of my life, and if (God forbid) I have any children, I will encourage them to not recite it as well.

As an adult, forcing kids to recite the pledge of allegiance is a little mortifying.

I wont tell my kids not to recite it, just to save them the pain of public exposure, but I will defend them forever if they choose to not recite it themselves.

Cthulhu, do you honestly think that your free speech allows you the right to deny my free speech?

Speech is not free unless everyone has the equal right to exercise it.

Some of the most gratifying moments I have received from these threads was when Rugian posted quotes that said the exact opposite of the quotes I had just posted.

That, or opening another thread for discussion, is the proper way to oppose a viewpoint you disagree with.

The purpose of my threads are to teach others my POV. Of course you have a right to think differently, but flaming and spamming my threads amounts to standing next to me and screaming insults as I am trying to say my piece.

Show a little pride in yourselves folks. Oppose my POV, but don't shout me down. When you do, you deny my right to freedom of speech.

You don't have free speech on an internet forum that you do not own.

If you go too far outside the bounds, as you have, you get posts deleted, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Free speech doesn't apply to this place.

No, what Voltaire is saying is that no one has a right to deny *your* freedom of speech and that is what the spammer is doing.

By spamming he is making the threads unreadable and that means some folks will probably not read my message because they don't want to wade through the spam to find it.

"Finally, Mr. Roosevelt demands the readiness to give him an assurance that the German fighting forces will not attack the territory or possessions of the following independent nations and, above all, that they will not march into them. And he goes on to name the following as the countries in question: Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Esthonia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Great Britain, Ireland, France, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Poland, Hungary, Roumania, Yugoslavia, Russia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iraq, Arabia, Syria, Palestine, Egypt and Iran.

A. I started off by taking the trouble to find out in the case of the countries listed, firstly, whether they feel themselves threatened, and secondly and particularly, whether this question Mr. Roosevelt has asked us was put as the result of a demarche by them or at least with their consent.

The answer was a general negative, which in some cases took the form of a blunt rejection. Actually this counter-question of mine could not be conveyed to some of the States and nations listed, since they are not at present in possession of their liberty (as for instance Syria), but are occupied by the military forces of democratic States, and therefore, deprived of all their rights."

MR. RUSSERT: If your analysis is not correct, and weâ??re not treated as liberators, but as conquerors, and the Iraqis begin to resist, particularly in Baghdad, do you think the American people are prepared for a long, costly, and bloody battle with significant American casualties?

VICE PRES. CHENEY: Well, I donâ??t think itâ??s likely to unfold that way, Tim, because I really do believe that we will be greeted as liberators.

MR. RUSSERT: The armyâ??s top general said that we would have to have several hundred thousand troops there for several years in order to maintain stability.

VICE PRES. CHENEY: I disagree. We need, obviously, a large force and weâ??ve deployed a large force. To prevail, from a military standpoint, to achieve our objectives, we will need a significant presence there until such time as we can turn things over to the Iraqis themselves. But to suggest that we need several hundred thousand troops there after military operations cease, after the conflict ends, I donâ??t think is accurate. I think thatâ??s an overstatement.

G. Gordon Liddy (1930 - )

"A former Treasury and FBI agent, Liddy fell in with the group that became known as the Plumbers and took part in the burglary of the office of Dr. Lewis Fielding, Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist. As the 1972 election drew near, Liddy became legal counsel to the CRP and proposed a plan to its management, code-named "Gemstone." By use of kidnapping, burglary, electronic surveillance, and the use of prostitutes, intelligence could be gleaned on political opponents. John Mitchell, director of CRP, balked at the plan's extravagance and its high million-dollar price tag and ordered it scaled back.

One part that survived the trimming was a break-in at the DNC headquarters in the Watergate complex. Liddy and E. Howard Hunt oversaw the operation and were arrested along with those who actually broke into the office. Eventually, Liddy stood trial for that offense, for conspiracy in the Fielding case, and for refusing to testify before the Watergate Committee. The courts handed him a stiff fine, and he served about 4 and a half years in prison, the most of any of the conspirators."
