I always thought that there was so much ass backwards with your views and the way you stuck to them so doggedly, now it strikes me that you stick so rigidly to the ethics you grew up with due to a sort of loyal streak in you that expresses itself this way. You weren't the thinker but you were the loyal bulldog. You were probably a good friend. I was your virtual enemy, and I wanted you to shut the hell up so many times, but I never wanted you to die. Or even leave. Now that you've done both I'm choking up. RIP

You generally don't expect many people his age to know how to use a computer, or post on an internet forum. Often we don't get a chance to pick the mind of someone who has lived as long a life and experienced as many things as him unless you're related. He seemed like the typical elderly conservative voter - loyal to his ideals no matter how obvious it was to all around him that he was wrong, constantly tuned in to media that thought like him, and a very dry sense of humor. Which means he didn't get out and move around a hell of a lot. When you become sedentary your life expectancy goes way down. I'm assuming that he had relatives who would have known that he spent all his time on this site and that we were his passion. One of them decided to let us know he was gone. All of that is supposition based upon if he wasn't pulling our collective legs for all these years. Hell he might even have left instructions in a will as to let us know when he kicked the bucket. In any case we are poorer without his particular flavor.

Its possible he was in ill health already, he was overweight for one, and perhaps the family plonked a computer in his home to try to keep him busy. Probably, the internet was the perfect place for someone who couldnt get around much but who loved a good ole argument and I think it quite fascinated him. For a 71 year old he was pretty proficient and interested in it. I think sometimes the fights kept him alive and kept his spark of life glowing. I'm really glad you passed at Christmas, Angel, much as it sounds like an awful time to go. Full of anticipation at meeting your family and your nephew. It was the big event of the year for you. And you got to pass away in the middle of that. A massive stroke probably means you were happy one moment with your family and then asleep the next. Most importantly, it would have been terrible if this had happened when you were on your own at home. I dont think it would have been noticed for some time. I'm so sad Rod. RIP old combatant.
