Member | Wed Nov 25 07:40:11 I have a friend who is a motorcyclist. Here, the authorities raise the insurance rates motorcyclists pay, only because the insurance companies lost a lot of money in bad investments. the motorcyclists are pissed and even arranged a huge slow-drive in Tel-Aviv and made the country slow to a crawl, in defiance. But nothing changed, the government is firm in its evil ways. So a bunch of the motorcyclists arranged, privately, only using e-mails and IM's, to invade a prime-time tv show called "big brother" where a few people are locked in an apartment full of hidden cameras. Well, ironically, they were intercepted prior to invading the place, by SWAT teams. The REAL big brother hacked into their electronic messaging, and even knew exactly who was among the motorcyclists who arrived by car, and forced to go back. |

Member | Wed Nov 25 10:51:15 wait what is wrong with raising rates on motorcyclists? |
Forwyn
Member | Wed Nov 25 10:52:39 Nothing, if a company decides thats what they want to do. The problem is the government forcing them to, so that they don't make "bad investments". |
Asgard
Member | Wed Nov 25 10:55:55 the issue is that motorcyclists must pay a very high insurence rate anyhow, and now they're gonna bump it by some 30%. Also, this is a very crowded country, and the administration should act to reduce automobiles and support more motorcycles, but it does the exact opposit, mkaing it far harder for people to be able to have motorcycles. The little people shouldn't pay more because the private insurance companies made a bad investement - the government should probably cover that, and not force the people to pay for it. |

Member | Wed Nov 25 10:57:47 the rate is set by the government, by a treasury clerk. |

Member | Wed Nov 25 10:59:15 so let me get this straight. the government invested in insurance companies that did bad in the government's eyes by having rates deemed too low for motorcyclists and is now forcing these companies to raise their rates for the motorcyclists? |

Member | Wed Nov 25 11:04:43 Are the companies that are getting their rated legislated only ones that have been "saved" by the government? Are there any companies that are not publicly invested in, that can still set their own rate? |
Forwyn
Member | Wed Nov 25 11:05:17 their rates legislated the* |

GTFO HOer | Wed Nov 25 11:05:32 also, pre-emotively creating networks of folks that are able to communicate using cryptography... ...would result in arrests for terrorism. |

Member | Wed Nov 25 11:06:06 No, the state merely sets the rate. That is, the state does what the private companies tell it to do. Furthermore, the elite police SWAT teams are busy spying on poor motorcyclists and act in favour of private companies instead of fighting organized crime (which is what the law that enables them to hack mails is for) |
Y2A
Member | Wed Nov 25 11:08:04 so the private companies form a cartel to set one single rate for a class of insured and get that rate set by the government as an official rate? |

Member | Wed Nov 25 11:10:25 I was gonna make some remark about how they could make any money off of motorcycle insurance, but then I remembered that Israel is not a freezing hellhole like Sweden. We have about 200k bikes on 9 million and many put them away during the winter and thus don't pay insurance or tax for half the year. |

Member | Wed Nov 25 11:11:53 Correct, Y2A, and not correct. This is still a socialist democracy, meaning, the insurence companies have a rate set by the government. it varies not in companies, but in horse power. heavier motors get heavier rates. This is like minimum-wage, it's to make things more fair. But this is twisted when the companies and the stare make things impossible by raising rates due to the companies faulty investments. The companies should either live through their losses alone or with government help, but instead they get the government to produce a higher rate. the easiest solution: to make the little guy pay more. comfortable for the government and comfortable for the companies. |

GTFO HOer | Wed Nov 25 11:29:03 in fact, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to create the framework for covert communication here. amongst UP members. long term political objectives: absolutely none (none of us could ever agree on anything anyways, except that it would be cool to talk in a way that outsiders cannot listen in). purely a hobbyist endeavor. |
