The Obama administration offered some mild criticism of Fox News the other day. It called its reporting opinion, and not news, and labeled it a de facto arm of the GOP. Now Glenn Beck has responded by likening this onslaught to the murder of six million Jews.

Beck said: "When they're done with Fox, and you decide to speak out on something. The old, 'first they came for the Jews, and I wasn't Jewish' {comes to mind}."

Here is the clip.

By now we should all be used to the right's use of the millions of Holocaust victims (Jews, gays, Gypsies, Poles, etc), as political footballs against Democrats, against health care reform, against taxes, against anything the right doesn't like. But, for some of us, getting used to it is hard.

My wife was born in a Displaced Persons camp in Germany after her Polish Jewish parents survived the Holocaust and made it to the American sector in Germany. My kids -- American born and in their early thirties -- are missing dozens if not hundreds of cousins because of the mass murder Beck trivializes. And our family had it easy compared to most European Jews.

It is, frankly, disgusting that Beck likens this slaughter -- including 1.5 million children -- to criticism of his rolling-in-dough network. I don't care if he apologizes; who needs an apology from the likes of Glenn Beck. I just hope that Jewish and other anti-discrimination organizations (like the Anti-Defamation League and American Jewish Committee) condemn Fox and Beck for their use of hate speech against Jews and others. Because, in my book, trivializing the Holocaust, like denying it, is hate speech.

What your Mr. Rosenberg needs to realize is we are in the early, very early, stages of what led to The Holocaust.

We are at a stage now where the Nazis were winning their first elections.

Before The Brown Shirts were formed, before Kristallnacht.

The problem with you liberals is you see this administration do things like trying to exclude FOX from the news pool the other day, and then accept whatever lame excuse they give you when they get caught with their pants down.

You really need to start looking at their lies as lies and quite accepting whatever excuses they deign to feed you.

You are aware that past presidents have done the same to keep or ignore certain press members. Nixon comes to mind since he kept a list of "enemies".

Guantanamo was a step into that direction, if you really want to make a useless comparison.

"You are aware that past presidents have done the same to keep or ignore certain press members. Nixon comes to mind since he kept a list of "enemies"."

And *THAT* is exactly what they have been warning Obama not to do, start an enemies list. But he does not appear to be listening.

Try turning on a news station that is willing to report the truth sometime.

GOP senator says Obama showing Nixonian tendencies

By BEN EVANS (AP) â?? 3 days ago

WASHINGTON â?? The third-ranking Senate Republican said Wednesday the Obama administration appears to be launching a Richard Nixon-like political strategy of making an "enemies list" of people who disagree with the president.

Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, who once worked in President Nixon's administration, warned the White House that such a "street brawl" approach of attacking political opponents "can get you in a lot of trouble."

Alexander offered no evidence that Obama is developing an actual list, as Nixon famously created for his opponents. But, he said, "I have an uneasy feeling only 10 months into this new administration that we're beginning to see the symptoms of this same kind of animus developing."

"It's a mistake for the president of the United States," he said. "Let's not start calling people out and compiling an enemies list."

White House spokeswoman Gannet Tseggai responded that it's Republicans who "seem to be formulating lists of people and policies to oppose" while the president "is focused on tackling the list of critical priorities that Washington has ignored for too long."

The president "remains committed to working with Republicans to include their best ideas, even if he doesn't get their support," Tseggai said.

Alexander's criticism, which echoed weekend remarks from Karl Rove, the former adviser to President George W. Bush and a Fox News contributor, comes amid an unusual public feud between Fox News and the White House. Alexander also cited widening disputes between the administration and business groups such as the insurance industry, Wall Street banks and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Several top administration officials have sharply criticized Fox News in recent days, saying the cable television channel acts like a wing of the Republican Party and shouldn't be viewed as a legitimate news organization.

The president bypassed "Fox News Sunday" during a string of appearances on news shows recently, and Fox News officials have said the White House threatened a boycott. The White House has denied that and says it will book administration officials on Fox News shows.

The administration also has taken on the Chamber of Commerce, for example, suggesting the group is out of touch with the business community on health care, climate change and other issues.

"Alexander offered no evidence that Obama is developing an actual list.."

Ah, I thought so. This was not on a news station. This was an article on the internet. This was three days ago no doubt.

So no list and an opinion from and individual is "they". Interesting.

Does anyone see the "Holy shit WTF???" moment in this statement?

Hot Rod, your knowledge of German history in the 1920s-1930s is hilariously lacking. The SA (brownshirts) were formed very early in the history of the Nazis, back when they were a local Munich political party. The SA made for a name for themselves by assaulting Communists, Jews, and others before the Nazis even made it to the Reichstag. The original intent of the Nazis was to seize control of Germany through revolution, rather than through winning elections. They were the ones who marched in the Beer Hall Putsch, and their street brawlings eventually became so politically damaging to the Nazis that they were eventually cast aside in favor of the more controllable SS.

So basically, your claim that the Nazis hid their violent tendencies until AFTER they were in charge is just downright stupid.

To put this into perspective,

The SA was formed in 1921, although its members had been acting as "guards" at Hitler's rallies for two years before then.

Hitler did not become chancellor until 1933.

ROFL.

So, according to your comparison between Obama and Hitler, pro-Obama goons have been beating up on his opponents in the streets for the last 12 years. Interesting theory.

I was thinking in terms of The Brown Shirts as a large national organization, but you are correct. They had a very early beginning.

But that does not negate my premise that we are in the very early stages of something that no Freedom Loving American really wants.
