Member | Tue Jun 23 16:28:36 I think I found out why so many Auto Dealerships were terminated. Someone said that Toyota told the administration they were a smaller company than GM and Chrysler with fewer dealerships, and they were doing fine. So the Obama Administration latched onto the idea that fewer dealerships equals a successful industry. |

Member | Tue Jun 23 16:30:35 Umm... Hot Rod... GM sales fell ~40% in the last two years. Why would they keep making and shipping the same number of cars when they are actually selling 1/2 of they used to? Chrysler is even worse, with sales down like 45%. |

Member | Tue Jun 23 16:31:15 Or it might have something to do with the fact that GM and Chrysler weren't moving enough vehicles to justify having as many dealerships as they had. |

Member | Tue Jun 23 16:36:45 Milton, it cost the car companies very little to maintain those dealerships. In addition, many of those terminated have been highly profitable for decades while some of those kept are marginal at best. Not to mention that many of the terminations are in violation of Contract and State(s) Law. |

So you think that a company selling with a sales volume of 60% of what it was last year should continue to produce and ship the same number of widgets? "In addition, many of those terminated have been highly profitable for decades while some of those kept are marginal at best." Well, there is a reason GM is in bankruptcy and Chrysler sold most of their assets to a foreign company for $0.40 on the dollar. Hint: The reason is not that America's most brilliant business minds are running GM. GM has had absolutely abysmal management for the last 10-15 years. |

Member | Tue Jun 23 17:20:37 Milton - So you think that a company selling with a sales volume of 60% of what it was last year should continue to produce and ship the same number of widgets? No, I never said that. What I said is that they should not fire their best sales people, especially if it violates Contract and/or State Law. The upper management of the companies, as bad as it may have been, does not justify firing a successful salesman. They should want their best sales people out there talking to the public, not in the unemployment line. Talk about the previous bad management, now the car companies are run by the government and the Unions. That is like putting the monkeys in charge of the zoo. |

Member | Tue Jun 23 17:38:27 I heard it in an interview, not sure who the guy was that said it. Perhaps he was being facetious, but he did say it. That is why I used the '?' in the title. |

Member | Tue Jun 23 17:50:17 "not sure who the guy was that said it. " So... basically we have some random guy making some random claim, no way to check his credibility and nothing to do other than make idle speculation. bravo, another brilliant thread HR. |

Member | Tue Jun 23 18:47:26 Jesus man, pay attention. "Perhaps he was being facetious, but he did say it. That is why I used the '?' in the title." Regardless who or why he said it, we are having a somewhat decent conversation about it. Why do you want to wreck the thread. Never mind, I don't want to know. |

Member | Tue Jun 23 18:51:46 The conversation you have been having has nothing to do with the Obama Administration and only the logic of shutting down dealerships. Thread topic fail. |

Member | Tue Jun 23 19:05:57 Go look up the word 'segue.' And since when has a thread on this forum had to remain on topic? Never mind. To everyone else: Can we move on please. |
