For many people, A.I. may be bringing the age of traditional text to an end.

Article is too long to bother to paste. While it raises interesting points and does a good job of contextualizing the changing landscape of reading and technology, it's altogether too permissive and progressive.

Author is concerned entirely with what the future might hold, and legitimatizes it, rather than questioning how and why we arrived at this point - and doesn't seem overly concerned with the continuation of a dire trend in society.

For my part, I can't crucify him or speak definitively on the subject. He's correct about this being something of reversal or return to oral tradition or pre-literacy, and from that perspective I tend to agree that perhaps we didn't fail in getting here.

Maybe literacy and knowledge and education were never truly meant for the masses - and humanity is just fated to reject it. AI then is an appropriate bridge to reconcile the gap between progress and nature.

Even if we consider the above to he true and even inevitable, I am personally inclined to think that we still failed, and the future the author is embracing is unnecessary and unavoidably dark, and was once avoidable.

Good that he mentioned reader's digest. What I think is happening is that writing is changing. Within 15 years we can likely tailor what we would like to read and use AI to make it for out enjoyment. A 6 book series in the style of whoever set in outerspace. Ty. Oh wait, I did not like this. Please change the fate of poor George. Make him braver.

A reader becomes more a publishhouse editor in some sense. Reading becoming more valuable, not less and more in under our control.

That reading for enjoyment must also compete with other forms of media is just natural and a different issue. Other forms of media is simply becoming more attractive and way more accessible.

What’s Happening to Reading?

Literally the first sentence:

"Article is too long to bother to paste."

Either your retardation effects your sense of humor. Or your ego has made you so brittle that you are allergic to jokes. Either way it makes you look gay.
