Sweden does not have ”Marines” in the US sense, these guys are Kustjägare, lit. ”Coastal hunters”, but I guess ”Coastal rangers” is a better term. Them, ”fallskärmsjägare” (paratroopers), fjälljägare (mountain rangers) and the amphibious battalion (very much like navy seals) are ”special” in the Swedish military. Every boy my age interested in serving wanted to be a Jägare. Swedish cold war strategy was not to meet the soviets head on and be obliterated, but to use defence in depth and use the ranger battalions to massacre and delay them behind their lines until NATO troops arrived (but we are also neutral, giggity).

I did 2 days of tests for this country! I have seen shit no one should see, just so I could be a coastal ranger. Alas I was drafted late and all the group command position were taken. Since the cold war was over I was given a choice, wait a year or be put in the "reserves". I chose the reserves. I will die before I let filthy Muricans and their Canadian pets denigrate the flag for which I am in reserve for.

jergul large member	Fri Jun 12 01:45:39 Speaking of Canada and manly things. I got the season's (2019-2020) first snowshoe trek done yesterday. Snowshoes are usually a hipster move. Why use them if boots or skis would be better? But the snow is getting really rotten, with small meltoff creeks flooding paths. Boots would suck, skis would suck. Snowshoes work great. Russia would be speaking French today if more of me had tagged along with Napoleon :D.

My father in law served in the Canadian forces WWII. Aspire who no longer follows Utopia spent 13 years in the US Marines. My other son did almost 4 years in the US Marines. I did 3 yrs. 10 mos. 9 days in the US Navy. My brother did 23 years US Navy.
